The GOP Obsession with the Rich and Corporations Has Brought Us to the Fiscal Cliff
The Republicans’ love affair with an anti-tax agenda goes back to before the Reagan era, and has persisted as the GOP embraced the lunacy of supply-side economics.

Apparently, to Grover Norquist an agreement with him is as legally binding as a mortgage, at least in his own self-important, inflated head.
The Republican Party’s doldrums are likely to continue until they acknowledge reality, but there are no signs of that happening soon

Longtime foe of multiculturalism, William J. Bennett, says Republicans lost culture war and accuses Democrats of playing identity politics
America won four more years for President Obama, but did we issue a mandate for change or for the status quo?
Obama swept the country in a decisive defeat of Romney with so far 303 electoral votes to 206, and possibly more. It’s called a mandate.
On ‘Meet the Press’ this morning, Senior Advisor David Plouffe pointed out that Mitt Romney would be a rubberstamp for the Tea Party if elected.
Reality is the ultimate enemy of Republican ideology, so Tom Tancredo picks up his vorpal blade and shows himself asylum-ready
Conservatives are beside themselves at the idea of foreigners monitoring their voter suppression activities on Election Day
The Obama Bombshell video has done nothing but discredit the peddlers on the Right on multiple levels. Their days of ACORNing their opponents are numbered.
A judge ruled that Pennsylvania’s voter suppression law not be enforced this election, that those without photo IDs must be allowed to vote
I paid a recent visit to an Upstate South Carolina Republican Party Headquarters to look at its campaign literature. FreedomWorks dominated.
Mitt Romney wants to convince Ameicans that Obama has quit on them, perhaps to cover up the fact that he himself isn’t even really trying
Mitt Romney is doubling down and rebranding the leaked video as a ‘focus on the people in the middle’, but he stands by his comment that Obama is attractive to people who don’t pay taxes.

One Term More is an inspired get out the vote effort set to the music of One Day More from the musical Les Miz. Who will be strong and stand with us?
In a note meant to congratulate Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan, Sarah Palin only mentions them three times while focusing all of her frenzied venom on President Obama.
For years we’ve been told Obama’s Christianity matters but where Romney’s Mormonism comes in, will expediency win out over dogma in 2012?
So Romney picked Paul Ryan, eh? And at the decidedly unmedia-worthy time of 7 a.m. ET on a Saturday morning. Who’s staffing newsrooms on early Saturday mornings? Well, Clyde, the 75-year-old ex- 6 & 11 p.m. anchorman now doing weekends and still threatening an age discrimination suit if they let him go and ace weekend…
Mitt Romney is hurting in the polls, has insulted nearly everyone he’s met, and now plans to take to the road to show his blue-collar cred
The tea party may enable an Obama win. They just do not care about the presidency this time around, and for that matter neither do the Republicans. The left needs to ready for a fight over Congress.
With Republicans in full panic mode, Rush Limbaugh tried to defend Mitt Romney today by claiming that Robin Hood was really a tea partier, and Romney Hood is a hero.

Today marks a new format in the Dirty Thirty, which will now include only updates (the entire updated list will be posted on its own page)
Dick Lugar lost to his Tea Party opponent in Indiana’s GOP primary. Is this a victory for Tea Party extremism or is it an opportunity for Hoosier Democrats?
Look at all the things wrong in America right now and then look at the GOP solutions since 2010. You will see they have no intention of fixing any real problems
If Lugar is a centrist than the true centrist position is an extreme left position just as Republicans insist and everything the left of that is beyond the pale
The Republican assault on American liberties has continued in 2012 with continued emphasis on the reproductive rights of women and women’s health
An established pattern of systemic Tea Party hatred toward women exists and is further evident in the legislation they push, and yet they can’t help themselves from projecting.
Don’t tread on me? A Tea Party leader in San Diego was arrested today for the brutal kidnapping and rape of a 56 year old woman.
Fox News’ latest polling data should alarm the Republican Party, because it shows President Barack Obama winning over Mitt Romney in a general election, the Democratic Party with higher favorables than the Republican Party, Mitt Romney with low favorables and the Tea Party in the dumps. Here’s the data for how the public, per the…
As we enter 2012 the GOP’s campaign to save America from non-existent problems rather than to create jobs shows no signs of abating
In order to eliminate Social Security and Medicare, Republicans use entitlement society language to stigmatize using government benefits.
CNN is on a roll these days, from Roland Martin’s offensive tweet about David Beckham’s Super Bowl underwear ad to Erick Erickson’s unforgiveable comments about President Obama to the latest offense du jour. Tea Party affiliate, Editor-in-Chief of Big Journalism and CNN contributor Dana Loesch brings this one to us from her radio show, saying…
The Spartanburg, SC Tea Party threw a school choice party. Dick Armey, head of FreedomWorks was the main speaker, and the removal of liberty was demanded from our schools.
With no signs of abating. Republican legislatures are if anything more eager than ever to press their rights-killing agenda for America and Americans
A new Indiana law would punish schools that stray from lyrical and melodic guidelines for the national anthem, stifling artistic expression.
One of the worst things that the Tea Party has done is push the championing of an uncompromising legislative branch in the name of liberty. Sadly, all too many politicians have fallen for this dangling carrot of immediate gratification at the eventual expense of democracy. Extremists complain that politicians compromise too much and that nothing…
The Dirty Thirty Year-End edition is a recap of legislation, local, state and federal, the GOP is using to destroy America
Miller lost his federal case – the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals threw out his lawsuit on Tuesday, just a week after the Alaska Supreme Court did the same.
Joe Miller will not try to perform a citizens arrest on Lisa Murkowski but he will take her to federal court for having the audacity to defeat him in 2010.
Michele Bachmann wants to “redefine” earmarks. Do a little tweaking here and there and you can spend wantonly yet present yourself as a fiscal conservative.
As the historical facts – the actual facts – are inconvenient, Beck, like other Republicans, have fabricated a history more congenial to Republican ideology.
The Tea Partier in question, John Trautman, was criticizing the build of a mosque. He said “are not only our enemy but pagans. Why would we want them in our backyard?”
Socialism is a form of governance where the State owns everything, and private ownership of the means of production and distribution has been eliminated. Although America is not Socialist, we do enjoy a privileged lifestyle that is the result of social programs. Our highway system, air travel, food safety, medical care, and old age assistance are all social programs, and whether or not teabaggers realize it, they enjoy and benefit from socialism.
Sorry, no kiss goodbye to any Clinton vs. Palin fantasy scenario i.e. strong feminist woman vs. pseudo-feminist quitter in 2012 or 2016.
If earmarks are banned, the money must be administered by a government agency, and it will tie up funding for important necessary projects and add to the bureaucracy in government. For teabaggers who hate the idea of government getting too big, this ban should be revolting, and will certainly mean more government intervention into local affairs.
Sarah Palin has another Tweeter moment. It’s ironic really, that she is the star of a reality show but reality is not a friend to her. She seems to be saying to reality (shrieking really), “Reality, you’re not the boss of me!”
In a recent issue of The Atlantic, Garrett Epps an article titled “All Patriots ‘Know’ that Moses Wrote the Constitution.” This is just one of many myths that the far right has constructed about our constitution, and the religious origins of our governmental system.
Many Americans are asking, “What happened?” In a wonderfully titled article, “What the #!%*?: The U.S. mid-term elections?” the National Post’s Peter Goodspeed asks and answers some very important questions about the midterms.
Americans go to the polls today in spite of main stream media reports that Republicans and Tea Party candidates swept every race. Usually it is only Fox News that tells their audience what the results of elections will be in advance of an election, but in this election cycle, real journalists are jumping on the Republican bandwagon in a big way.
Phillips wants Keith Ellison (D) U.S. Representative for Minnesota’s 5th congressional district, out of office because he is a Muslim.
Apparently, pride is an issue with Meek and he must think he is making a statement. He is making a statement; he’s saying it’s acceptable to give Rubio a six year stint in the Senate just to say, “I didn’t give up.”
Words and actions have consequences, sometimes to the person who speaks, sometimes to the people spoken of. In an environment of hate and xenophobia, the consequences can be deadly and widespread.
The American Revolution ended British rule; the Constitution created the United States of America, and that creation did not all happen at once. It was a process; the United States is the result of political compromise and evolution, not violent overthrow.
The Republicans and the Tea Party are treating our government like a corporation folks, and they are preparing for a corporate takeover. And don’t think for a minute while they’re taking away your pensions and your social security that they won’t have golden parachutes of their own.
The Republicans talk a lot about prayer, a natural off-shoot of their tendency to talk about God. If there was any lingering doubt about the Grand Old Party having become God’s Own Party, the 2008 elections should have dispelled it, and the lead-up to the 2010 midterms have only cemented the new Republican focus. Sharron…
On HBO program Real Time, host Bill Maher took a few minutes to explain why the Tea Party is not in step with regular Americans. Maher used polling data to illustrate the fact that a majority of Americans disagree with the Tea Party on climate change, health care, immigration and gay marriage. Maher point was that the Tea Party does not represent the views of a majority of Americans.
Regardless the teabag rhetoric, at the core is a hatred of gays, immigrants, Jews, people of color, and non-Christians, which is exactly the same philosophy of the KKK.
This is a blatant and misleading attempt by the GOP to steal the election. Trick the voters not to vote. Yes, trick. The conservatives have tried to co-opt the Latino vote by getting their token Latino to urge his fellow voters to stand on the sidelines.
As the nation steams ahead towards Election Day 2010, we are starting to find out the true meaning of the term common sense conservative. Apparently this term means that the conservative substitutes common sense for actual knowledge of the Constitution, or in the case of Christine O’Donnell absolute ignorance of the Constitution.
The Republican Party must sign its own death warrant in the general elections. The Grand Old Party, by selling out first to the Religious Right and then trying to co-opt the Tea Party, has found itself between a rock and a hard place.
Ideological purity may sound great on the drawing board, but it’s not so good when you need votes – lots of votes. Obviously, the ideas then are mutually incompatible. You can’t have the one because you won’t allow the other.
When questioned, Republican candidates adopt the role of victims, pretending that a liberal media elite is engaging in a witch hunt. They are creating a narrative in which the asking of questions is demonized. Even asking a question of them is wrong, an attack.
Unregulated capitalism gave us the evils of the Gilded Age. Unregulated capitalism gave us the crash of 2008 that has left not just America, but much of the world, reeling.
While they work night and day to deregulate corporate America, Republicans and teabaggers want to regulate morality and pass laws that force archaic biblical regulations on every American. Conservatives are hell-bent on regulating what goes on in the bedroom between consenting adults, and they want to regulate what kind of person teaches in schools.
“These two elections, 2010 and 2012, go hand-in-hand. The theme of 2010 has got to be rebuke their errors, reject, repeal; and then the theme of 2012, it’s renew, revive and restore.”
Someday, future Americans will look back on the end of the 21st century’s first decade and feel shame, and perhaps a sense of wonder that such an advanced nation, one of the most free to have ever existed, could be home to such petty prejudice and superstition.
You can see him there with his SS pals, smiling for the camera, just like all those photos of SS guys and their pals from the 30s and 40s, smiling for the camera. It was guys in those uniforms, you see, who upheld another, earlier form of purity standard, killing millions of Jews, gypsies, and homosexuals and other “deviants” as designated by their ultra-conservative leadership.
While campaigning for Democratic Maryland Governor Martin O’Mally today, President Barack Obama was confronted by a heckler who shouted, “You’re a liar.” The crowd quickly took care of him as a woman in the audience responded with, “We know Fox sent you.”
Sharron Angle proved herself another FOX News-ready Constitutional expert when she said, “Government isn’t what our founding fathers put into the Constitution. This is different,” Angle said.
While claiming to be an agent of change, an outsider determined to make changes, Angle is at once claiming the Republican Party has not supported her and at the same time claiming she has “juice” in Washington.
On his radio show today Glenn Beck and his crew claimed that the perfect movie for these teabagging times is Star Wars. Beck managed to turn Star Wars in into a Tea Party epic. Beck said, “Wow, is it a appropriate story for today. My gosh, the Republic is going down. The Empire is starting.”
President Obama participated in CNBC’s Investing in America Town Hall today where he called out the Tea Party and told them to get specific about exactly what spending they would cut. Obama said, “It’s not enough just to say get control of spending. I think it’s important for you to say I’m willing to cut veteran’s benefits, or I willing to cut Medicare or Social Security benefits.”
In an interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night former President Bill Clinton explained and broke down the true purpose of the Tea Party. Clinton said that Tea Partiers are pawns in a game and, “The people that are funding this Tea Party are trying to weaken the government… so that they can have unaccountable private power.”
Former part-time Alaskan Governor Sarah Palin has repeatedly demonstrated her lack of knowledge about…well, almost everything, really. If there is an antidote to the European Enlightenment, which threw back the darkness of the Middle Ages and gave birth to the United States of America, it is Sarah Palin. She is to knowledge what kryptonite is to Superman. She is anti-knowledge.
A fascinating report on the Tea Party was released today by Democracy Corps. Their data collected from months of polling debunked the myth of the Tea Party as populist outrage, but also revealed that Sarah Palin is regarded by the members as hero of the movement, but they have doubts about her intelligence and future.
“The most radical President ever to occupy the Oval Office.” That’s the sound of an anti-government movement of hate funded by billionaires being sold to “average Americans”. Sort of a Tea Party madrassa, if you will. The Tea Party’s funders are serving up their manufactured narratives and much of the public is eating it up.
There’s nothing like a little Right Wing silliness to make a Monday complete and this Monday does not disappoint. Sunday, Tea Partiers carrying water for the GOP’s new fear mongering Get Out the Vote tactic rallied on a private ranch owned by a hate group to show support for Arizona’s Papers First Law. This is, of course, all a part of the “Obama and the Democrats don’t keep us safe” narrative, buttressed by the fear of anchor babies and general resentment of brown people which has eclipsed the Right’s fear of gay people this election season.
There is a battle being waged in America today over the meaning of liberty. The Tea Party has co-opted the language of liberty, but freedom for all does not interest them. They want freedom for the few at the expense of the many. Real choice, real liberty, is devalued by the limited menu offered by the Tea Party. They want to “take America back” but they don’t want to share it.
Glenn Beck dislikes government. He also dislikes social programs – such as Social Security, Medicaid and Medicare. Those who advocate such programs are, for Beck, “cockroaches.” Beck, a radical conservative, thinks he channels Paine, an interesting feat considering Paine was a radical liberal, who is considered the real father of Social Security.
Vice President Joe Biden was on ABC’s This Week this morning, and when he was asked if he thought the Tea Party contained racist elements, he delivered and answer that was the perfect counter to the race baiting of Fox News. Biden said that while there are people in the Tea Party who express racist views, he did not believe that the Tea Party is a racist organization.
Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-MN) showed up on Fox and Friends today to claim that there is absolutely no evidence of racism in the Tea Party. Bachmann said, “The assertions that were made by some of my colleagues during the health care debate, there’s no record of it. Nothing on audio tape, nothing.”
The Right and the Tea Party like to think of themselves as freedom fighters in the mold of the Founding Fathers, but a closer look reveals that their revolution is really devolution, because at its core, conservatism is about returning to the past. Upon examination it turns out the Tea Party has more in common with King George, than the Founding Fathers.
The ratings troubles at Fox News continue to mount as along with the collapse of Glenn Beck, the networks entire prime time lineup is down in down in total viewers over the past year. FNC embraced the Tea Party and saw its ratings fall 6%, while MSNBC’s have grown by 3%. In other words, since Fox News embraced the Tea Party, they have lost over 120,000 daily viewers.
Remember when Glenn Beck got all outraged last September and claimed that President Obama was indoctrinating children with his back to school speech last September? Well, on his radio show today, Beck explained why the right must indoctrinate their children, “We must view our children as clay pots. We must look at them as the place to put our scared documents into them.”
The latest CBS News poll contained some interesting information about who supports the Tea Party movement. Contrary to what Tea Partiers claim, their movement is not bi-partisan. Of the 20% who considered themselves Tea Party supporters, 36% were Republicans, 18% were Independents, and only 2% were Democrats, so much for that organic bi-partisan movement to take back America. The Tea Party is really nothing more than the same old white Republicans.
By any standard Republican Kentucky Senate nominee Rand Paul has had a terrible week. He followed up winning the GOP nomination on Tuesday with a disastrous appearance on the Rachel Maddow Show, which he followed up with an even worse appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America where he defended BP and the oil spill. Most telling is the way that his Tea Party backers, including Sarah Palin have remained silent on his comments.
While speaking at Hampton University today, President Barack Obama did something subtle today. He took Thomas Jefferson and the actions of the Revolutionary War patriots away from the Tea Party and applied them to all America, “What Jefferson recognized, like the rest of that gifted generation, was that in the long run, their improbable experiment, America, wouldn’t work if its citizens were uninformed.”
