Donald Trump is abusing presidential power again. This time he threatened, via Sarah Sanders, to strip several people of their national security clearances. In short, he tried to weaponize security clearances. If you meet the standards for a clearance but are a critic of Trump, he wants to silence you by taking your security clearance.
CNN reports that John McEntee -Donald Trump’s personal assistant- is being investigated for what are being described as “serious financial crimes.” So serious, in fact, that he was fired, escorted out of the White House and not even allowed to collect his things -not even his jacket- on his way out.
“There were more than 100 staffers in the Executive Office of the President who were operating on interim clearances more than a year after Trump was elected.”
Former Ambassador Rep. Don Beyer shared a security clearance form containing directions that you must fill out a declaration of all foreign contacts by the clearance holder “or your spouse.”
