In an interview with Jon Stewart on The Daily Show last night former President Bill Clinton explained and broke down the true purpose of the Tea Party. Clinton said that Tea Partiers are pawns in a game and, “The people that are funding this Tea Party are trying to weaken the government… so that they can have unaccountable private power.”
Sarah Palin is learning that Fox News and all of its media outlets can be quite the fickle mistress as evidence by Kimberly Guilfoyle’s Fox News Radio appearance where she basically touted Christine O’Donnell as the new Sarah Palin, “She is really becoming an engaging compelling figure. I think she definitely got a little bit of Sarah Palin appeal to her.”
Vice President Joe Biden gave one of his best interviews since he has been in the White House on Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC program, where he expressed why progressives need to get energized about this election, “Our progressive base, you have, you should not stay home. It, you better get energized. Because the consequences are serious for the outcome of the things we care most about.”
During election season arguments fly fast and furious. It can be hard to keep up; it can be hard to know what/who to believe. But if you listen carefully, you will find that the Republican narrative has made clear that Republicans don’t know what an argument is.

This morning on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” Joe Scarborough and team of analysts laughed hysterically at Newt Gingrich’s birther statements regarding our President. They tried to stop, and even went so far as to read Newt’s entire quote to make sure he wasn’t being quoted out of context, but his entire statement was even more crazy. Hilarity ensued as the entire panel laughed at Newt.

The newest Pew Research Center’s survey of where and how people get their news has been released, and while Fox News is still polling the oldest viewership, Stephen Colbert and Jon Stewart are pulling the youngest. As Stewart educates his young viewers in the ways of FNC on a nightly basis, it is clear that he is the biggest long term media threat to Fox News.
Rudy Giuliani was on Meet The Press today engaging in a bit of GOP revisionist history, as he claimed that it is Bill Clinton’s fault that Bin Laden is still free, “The reality is, in the period of time when we weren’t paying as much attention to bin Laden and al-Qaeda, they were attacking us almost every other year. I’m talking about in the, in the ’90s.”

Apparently to Palin patriotism means betraying America’s basic constitutional rights, while betraying our commander in chief, and holding a benefit for Sarah Palin Inc., not the victims or families of 9/11. The Democrats have given us solid economic growth, more money than the GOP’s desperate cries for tax cuts can provide; tax cuts that wouldn’t be an issue if the Republicans hadn’t destroyed our economy in the first place.
On her MSNBC program, Rachel Maddow thoroughly took apart Glenn Beck’s and Sarah Palin’s Great Alaska 9/11 cash grab, by saying, “We like to commercialize and exploit everything. One of the issues that Republicans have been running on is extending the Bush tax cuts for the top 2% of earners, but a new Gallup poll released today revealed that a large majority of Americans don’t want the tax cuts extended to the richest Americans. 59% favor either letting the tax cuts completely expire, or extending them for those making $250,000 or less.
The evidence is all around us, that change is real, that it is part of life, and that it yields good things. Conservatives the world over, not just our own, are still suffering whiplash. The best they can do is use fear to put the breaks on.

During his Labor Day remarks in Milwaukee, Wisconsin today President Barack Obama took aim at the Republican Party’s November election strategy by labeling it no, we can’t. Obama said, “Remember when our campaign slogan was “Yes We Can?” These guys are running on “No, We Can’t,” and proud of it. Really inspiring, huh?”
Republican rhetoric has become so outrageous they have lost the ability to tell fact from fantasy. Clueless, they nod sagely while the rest of the world laughs.
A new CNN/Opinion Dynamics poll released today should provide some hope to Democrats and cause a bit of concern for the GOP ahead of the mid term elections. The poll revealed that a majority of Americans (53%) blame George W. Bush and the GOP not Barack Obama and the Democrats for the nation’s current economic problems.

At his daily press briefing today White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs was asked about Glenn Beck’s attacks on Obama’s Christianity. Gibbs said, “People are entitled to their own opinion as ill informed as it may be, but they’re not entitled to their own facts. The president is a committed mainstream Christian.”
On Fox and Friends this morning the panel claimed that President Obama’s Iraq speech contained hidden messages about a second stimulus and cap and trade, and that using the term “middle class” was a buzz word. Eric Bolling said, “We must jump start industries, sounds to me like stimulus, and end our dependence on foreign oil, sounds to me like cap and trade.”
All day today, Republicans from John Boehner to Sarah Palin have gone on a prebuttal campaign with the intent of criticizing President Obama for taking credit for the end of the Iraq war. The problem is that Obama’s actual speech gave George W. Bush and the troops credit, and by doing so, he outsmarted Palin and the GOP.
We all know that logic isn’t a strong suit for Glenn Beck, but on his radio show today while trying to defend Mitch McConnell’s pandering to the Obama is a Muslim movement, Beck managed to claim that Barack Obama is the biggest birther of all, “You know who the biggest birther is? Barack Obama.”
Convinced that only conservatives have a right to rule, and that they are not a defeated political party but the victims of an unlawful usurpation, a government in exile, the Republicans have declared war on America and will go to any lengths to return to power.
Do you remember when Glenn Beck promised a miracle from God at his 8-28 rally? On his Fox News program today Beck unveiled the power of the Lord through flying geese. A flyover by some geese is what Beck is citing as his miracle. Beck called it “God’s flyover.”
It seems that Sarah Palin has enlisted some help in her war against Medicare, as yesterday on Face The Nation, her handpicked Alaska US Senate candidate Joe Miller told the nation that Medicare is unconstitutional, thus furthering Palin’s un-Mama Grizzly like jihad against Medicare, and her advocacy of a policy that killed 254 Alaskans while she was governor.
President Obama spoke today at Xavier University in New Orleans to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina. While much of his speech was rightly dedicated to the rebirth rebuilding, and revival of New Orleans, Obama took a shot at the Bush administration, “I am proud that my FEMA Director, Craig Fugate, has 25 years of experience in disaster management in Florida.” Et tu, Brownie?
It is the day after Glenn Beck’s Restoring Honor rally, guest starring Sarah Palin, in the Don Knotts, Scooby Doo guest star slot, and the spin is on. Beck claims 400,000 people attended, Palin claims 500,000 people attended, and Michele Bachmann said 1 million people were there, but independent estimates place the number at 87,000-100,000 meaning another Beck rally has flopped.
The conservative demand for heroes is more intense than ever. There can never be enough dead heroes, Reagan, McCarthy and others, and living heroes seem even more in demand to judge by the quality of those being put forward, like Joe the Plumber, Sarah Palin, and by his own reckoning, Glenn Beck.
Glenn Beck delivered a powerful symbol to America today during his Restoring Honor rally, but it had nothing to do with his words or the crowd. Glenn Beck is a Mormon in evangelical clothing who has co-opted the Christian narrative for his own purposes. He is preaching what he obviously does not, and cannot believe given his Mormonism. Are mainstream Christians aware of this disconnect between Beck and his message? This has been noticed by some on the Religious Right. Some, but not enough.
In his column today, Bill O’Reilly did something that every other Fox News personality has refused to do. He admitted that FNC is biased, not only are they biased, but they are biased against liberals. I know. I know. Today the Democratic Governors Association issued a statement urging Fox News CEO Roger Ailes to disclose his networks donations to the Republican Party on the air, “In the interest of some fairness and balance, I request that you add a formal disclaimer to your news coverage any time any of your programs cover governors or gubernatorial races between now and Election Day.”
Turning Karl Marx upside down, Republicans argue that when the money is taken from the poor and Middle Class it is not class warfare. Rather, it is the natural order of things. The money goes where it is supposed to go according to trickle-down economics – into the pockets of the wealthy. Gone unsaid by the Republicans, these tax cuts increased the federal deficit.

John Cornyn suggested that the GOP is ready to make 9/11 an issue again this November, but by playing the politics of fear, the GOP could ensure failure in November.

An interesting survey of the residents of New Orleans by the Kaiser Family Foundation released today found that 49% of those surveyed think that the BP oil spill is a more damaging threat to the city than Hurricane Katrina was (40%). No matter how much BP has tried to spin their response, 84% held a negative of view of how the company responded to the man made disaster.
Forty different Catholic, evangelical, mainline Protestant, Jewish and Muslim leaders and scholars came together to release a statement condemning the hate language of Fox News, Sarah Palin, and Newt Gingrich as it relates to the so called Ground Zero mosque, “Fear-mongering and hateful rhetoric only undermine treasured values at the heart of diverse faith traditions and our nation’s highest ideals.”
A nationwide poll of Republican voters was released by the Clarus Research Group, and it contained some bad news for Sarah Palin. While the race for the 2012 nomination remains wide open, support for Sarah Palin has declined 33% in a year. Mitt Romney leads the field followed by Mike Huckabee, Newt Gingrich, and Palin.
Apparently, Rush Limbaugh is not very happy about the reception that his wedding pictures received on Facebook, because today he called the 12 million Facebook fans of Barack Obama, “suckers,” and while he is holding a contest to give away 3 engraved iPads a week on his Facebook page, he accused Obama of, “giving away the store.”
On his radio show today, Glenn Beck once again blamed the unemployed for their joblessness. Beck told people without jobs to take a lower paying job. Beck said, “We now have people that are on unemployment, but they won’t take another job. They won’t take a job.”
The extremist system runs on pure lies. Anything less gums it up and stalls it. This is as true of the extreme left as the extreme right. This said, it can now be understood why the conservative book writing movement is an exercise in apologetics from the Heritage Foundation to Beck to Coulter; why it has to be. The minute you start acknowledging other points of view, you begin to encourage people to think, to ask questions, to make choices. This must be discouraged at all costs.
According to a soon to be released Wall Street Journal/NBC News poll most Americans aren’t disappointed with Barack Obama and his presidency. Fifty eight percent of those who were surveyed said that Obama has met their expectations since he took office, 29% said he has done worse than they expected and 12% said that he has done better than expected.
Glenn Beck, Fox News, and the Right Wing media have jumped all over the Democrats and Obama cutting aid to the food stamp program. Many of these same people who refer to Social Security as a Ponzi scheme and unemployment benefits as welfare are expressing phony outrage over a benefit cut that will not occur until 2014.
Shortly after it was announced that former US Sen. Ted Stevens had passed away in a plane crash in Alaska, Sarah Palin took to her Facebook page to offer words of condolence for her political mentor. In fact she used few words of condolence, and instead used Stevens to defend her $500 million theft of taxpayer money a.k.a. the natural gas pipeline.
It’s a real crazy assortment of personalities dotting the Republican political landscape and it is not easy to say one is crazier than another, but Rep. Trent Franks, who once called Obama, “an enemy of humanity,” stands above all others.
After Press Secretary Robert Gibbs suggested that those on the Left who claim that Obama is just like Bush need to be drug tested, the howls were fast and furious. Gibbs walked back his statements, but by attacking their cynicism, he exposed the Left’s unrealistic expectations, and their annoying habit of pushing the Right’s talking points.
Everyone is by now familiar with the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy. Cries of horror have ascended to the heavens from the right-wing as they denounce Muslim plans to build a mosque at Ground Zero. But xenophobia, to be more precise, Islamophobia, most of it originating from conservative Christians, is not fact-friendly. Bottom line is that it’s getting put where it can be put, to serve an existing need in Lower Manhattan.
Fox News’ projection of the Bush administration’s failures continued today on FNC’s America’s News HQ, when the network not so subtly prefaced a story on Afghanistan by referring to it as, “the President’s war.” Here is a reminder to Fox, the war in Afghanistan started on October 7, 2001 under George W. Bush, not Barack Obama.
As President Obama’s first term moves along, Fox News is becoming more and more detached from reality. It used to be that FNC would broadcast stories that might have had a small basis in truth, but FNC has mirrored the slow psychological destruction of the Right, until all that remains now are delusions, dreams and Obama conspiracy theories.
On Fox and Friends Saturday today a panel was set up to advance the right wing claim that President Obama was going to apologize for the bombing of Hiroshima. However the real bomb was dropped when former Bush Ambassador to Japan Thomas Schieffer destroyed the network’s claim, “It certainly was not an apology, and I think he will not issue an apology.”
One of the fascinating things about John McCain’s reelection campaign is not only has he sold out and moved further to the right, but he has adopted the political persona of his 2008 running mate, Sarah Palin. McCain, like Palin, has abandoned his reputation for bipartisanship, his former positions and values, and is now plain pandering to an angry GOP base. In short, McCain has been Palinized.
President Obama spoke at Gellberg Signs today in Washington, D.C. where he not only kept pushing forward his jobs creation agenda, but he also made sure that everyone, including the Right, knew that the Big Three automakers are profitable, alive and well, “All three U.S. automakers are now posting a profit for the first time since 2004.”
Newt Gingrich was on FNC’s Hannity where he kept up his pre 2012 presidential campaign rhetoric by saying that Barack Obama and the Democrats are, “Government by the elites, by the elites, and for the elites.” This is unlike the Republican Party which opposed unemployment benefits, didn’t want to lift the damage cap on BP, and is fighting to protect tax cuts for the rich.
On his Fox News show today, Glenn Beck claimed that all progressives are terrorists, “Many of these people are nothing more than terrorists, economic terrorists, free speech terrorists, religious terrorists, racial terrorists. They are attempting to silence you through terror. They have not gone to a flight school or strapped bombs to their chest, but they are terrorists just the same.”
It was a good day for the Constitution when Vaughn R. Walker, the chief judge of the Federal District Court in San Francisco, struck down Proposition 8 as a violation of the Constitution’s free exercise clause. It was proof of as Judge Walker wrote, “Tradition alone, however, cannot form the rational basis for a law.”
Sarah Palin has taken to her Facebook page to continue to spread intentionally false information about the Democrats and the Bush tax cuts. In Palin world repealing would “cost” $3.8 billion, but the real cost of keeping the Bush tax cuts will be 700 billion over the next 10 years and it adds $4.4 trillion to the deficit. Mrs. Palin is lying.
Rush Limbaugh took a moment on his radio show to as he put it, “clear something up once and for all.” He said, “I, Rush Limbaugh, am not a racist,” which is interesting because I don’t know many non-racists who feel the need to discuss the Obamas’ slave blood, or more importantly feel the urge to differentiate between Obama’s black half and white half, as Limbaugh did.
After taking a brief break from race baiting due to being slapped down by Shirley Sherrod, Fox News has moved on to an easier target, babies, specifically the so called anchor babies. Fox News ratcheted up the rhetoric today by referring to the 14th Amendment as the, “anchor baby amendment.” Lucky for us, Jon Stewart has taken on the lunacy of the right wing anchor baby campaign.
Once upon a time, there was an America where politicians would seek to find consensus on issues, who would be willing to compromise in order to get things done – quid pro quo. We can’t all get everything we want, but we can get some of it, and some is better than nothing. That America has been killed and replaced by an age of political nihilism.
Sarah Palin says Barack Obama lacks “cojones.” This, we might note comes from a woman who fully thoatedly endorsed a secessionist movement in Alaska. To Sarah Palin, cajones equal secession and betrayal of the Constitution of the United States of America.
