Lately, Republicans and members of the news media have pounced on comments made by former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton regarding her family’s financial situation after her husband, ex-President Bill Clinton, left the White House. It isn’t working.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics released January’s jobs numbers and there was good, mediocre and bad news all mixed in to the report.
On Tuesday morning, at a breakfast discussing the State of the Union address later in the evening, Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-OH) told reporters that President Obama is on dangerous ground on his use of executive orders.
Losing the 2008 presidential election has sent the Right Wing over the edge, as their sense of presidential entitlement has been violated, and they are angry. They are angry because the government is no longer engaging as what they see as its divine role of corporate greed enablement, and to show their scorn they have decided to shakedown the American people by refusing to let the business of the country be conducted. The GOP is not just the party of GOBP, but also the party of ME.
Paul Krugman was on ABC’s This Week this morning, where he pulled no punches when discussing the GOP’s argument against Wall St. reform. He called, Mitch McConnell’s argument against financial reform as, “the most dishonest argument ever made in the history of politics, which is the claim that having regulation of the banks is actually bailing out the banks.”
When you put Sarah Palin and Michele Bachmann at the same rally it is only matter of time before the garbled logic and general wackiness ensues, and Sarah Palin delivered by saying the Party of No was a mistaken concept but, “what’s wrong with being the Party of No.” According to Sarah, Republicans aren’t the Party of No, but they are the Party of No.
Democrats are ultimately responsible for solving the problem of the gridlock. But Democrats can’t force Republicans to work together to solve the country’s problems, and frankly, this meme only reinforces the illogical idea the Democrats have power over Republicans. Blaming Democrat for GOP obstructionism is ridiculous. That’s like blaming a domestic violence victim for the abuser’s behavior. Democrats have control over their own behavior, and their only choice right now is to overcome the GOP obstructionism using any legal means necessary.
