The Senator is absolutely correct! This DOGE operation is taking over the entire functions of the Executive Branch, with no oversight from our Congressional representatives! This is just simply un American and un democratic! It must stop!

Musk wasn't elected anywhere.

Ignore him.

He has no chain of command or Congressional authority.

Ignore him.

Agree totally!

As public pressure continues to grow, it would seem that the GOP House shouldn’t have a problem sending Preznit Musk into early retirement; perhaps even lose government contracts due to his UNpopularity! Good riddance, and hopefully it begins the slippery slope for MAGATS.

Shut the fking thing down!

Amen! This should never have been allowed to begin with. I sure hope some of the nation’s brightest and most aggressive investigative agencies are looking for serious charges to apply to Musk and all those who enabled this serious breach of confidentiality of the American people and the damage they are doing to our national security by accessing this very important information without the proper credentials.

Expand full comment

The investigative agencies are controlled by Trump flunkies. They don’t care about national security. No charges will ever be brought against President musk.

The Legislative Branches have investigatory authority and can look into this. Regular emails complaining to their respective congressional delegations might get some of these fearful Republicans off their rear ends. Our democracy is crumbling before our eyes and only strong leadership can help us at this point. The Democrats need to toughen up and those Republicans with even a semblance of loyalty to the USA must start putting the American people and our democracy first. Without it, we are doomed.

I try daily to be upbeat about what our country is going through. But you must realize that I am elderly and what I’ve been saying for the last 65 years has fallen on mostly deaf ears. My parents were very wise hardworking people and they taught us well about what we must do to maintain our freedoms!

Nancy, I am 71 yrs old, so I know exactly what you are saying and feeling. I’m the daughter of a man who went to Japan in WWII, then was recalled to Korea, then came home & joined the National Guard full time in Mi., where retired as a LTC. So I know all about working hard to get ahead and about being a Patriot. I get it. Ive done the same things as you. But I can’t stop doing it. I’ll continue until people start listening. My parents, especially my father, always said that Russia will never conquer America by land or sea, but they claimed they will try to do it from within. I’ve never forgotten that. So I will fight Trump & his cronies and their love & bromance of Putin & Russia until my last breath in any way I can. I hope you keep it up too! That’s what we good Americans do. It’s who we are!

Exactly this! Our congressional representatives work for us. If they don’t do their jobs right, we can fire them! While all the havoc being wreaked by Trump 2.0, and especially Musk is tragic, this may be the tipping point where Trump voters are “woke” by FAFO.

Expand full comment

I think you have failed to realize that the republicans knew this would happen and in fact are very much for the destruction of our democracy. They have their jobs and think they will have security if they parrot Prz Musk/Trmp.

Expand full comment

What they haven't grasped is, as fast as they are losing the powers of the legislative branch there will be NO NEED to have Senators or Reps. That's the height of stupidity.

Expand full comment

Then they are more stupid than the Maggots who voted for them. Myself I don’t think all of them are that dumb. The more noise we make, they will know that they will not have a job once we get Trump & Musk out of office. And that is something we all have to do, or lose our Freedoms and the Democracy that we all love so very much! Don’t be a defeatist. We need to fight this however we can.

I don’t doubt that a significant number of Republicans in Congress support Musk and Trump’s takedown of our government. I also believe a good number of them know better but are more interested in retaining their legislative seats rather than putting the welfare of the nation first.

Expand full comment

If they think they will retain their seats in Congress they truly are stupid. They are already getting a ton of angry backlash from their constituents. Most people who voted for Trump didn’t vote for what he is aggressively doing right now. That is why they are starting to angrily fight back. I didn’t vote for Trump this time or in 2016. He is unfit and always has been. So now everyone must fight hard and long, opposing everything Trump & Musk are trying to do and never stop! We need to make him & Musk and everyone supporting him absolutely miserable for this attempt to take over our country.

And another thing, DOGE was not vetted by the Senate nor approved by our congressional representatives! There has got to be something totally illegal about this!

Expand full comment

Neither were the Cabinet appointments, at least for the most part.

oh but the Cabinet heads were certainly voted and approved -- we all watched the shitshows

Musk is an illegitimate illegal menace. Cuts should be analyzed and carefully done. He has messed up so many times already. The government is not a company.

Expand full comment

Our federal government was NEVER meant to be run as a business, nor do we need failed businessmen who are tax evaders working in our federal government! Nor do we need white nationalists like Hedgseth falsely stating any of the pre-Trump officials were DEI appointments—that’s defamation! He himself is an accused sexual predator and a falling-down alcoholic, which disqualify him from appointment to a cabinet post!

Expand full comment

I agree.

Expand full comment

That’s both Trumps & Musks main problem, they want to run our country like a business, which it is not. That is why you never vote for a businessman or businesswoman for a political position that hasn’t any experience in politics. They don’t know or even care about the people they are hurting. It’s all transactions and money to them, and nothing else.

Every lawless thing musk and his teenie-boppers are doing is a violation of our separation of powers contained in the Constitution! All will be reversed and our federal workers restored to their jobs.

If this budget control strategy works to shut down DOGE, the Dems can use it to achieve other goals. But, the Dems have to be unified.

YEAH, NO CAVING!!

Senator Van Hollen is correct - according to the elected president, DOGE is not an agency of the U.S. Government and Musk holds no official position. Congress must shut down Musk's attack on the U.S. government!

Shut Musk and his band of thieves out. This isn’t how you run a government. Then impeach that orange imposter. I continue to email my Republican officials every day demanding an answer as to who is running Doge and our Government.

Expand full comment

How much should Dems give up in tax cuts for the rich in order to shut down doge? They are asking for 4 trillion dollars. Once again the rich will get richer and children , old folks, and lower income people will suffer more. Id rather just arrest the non vetted illegal criminal and put him in prison for no costs at budget time.

Totally agree. Use whatever method necessary to curb their power.

DOGE needs to be shut down.

Expand full comment

SHUT. IT. DOWN! DOGE or the government, doesn’t really matter right now since nothing at the Fed level is functioning anyway. Do NOT give in and work with them. They need to own this whole mess. Dems need to use *all* the tools they have - which are limited, yes, but can still be effective.

I would expect Trump to make promises regarding removing Musk from an active role (chainsaw), then bring him back after the debt ceiling is raised.

How can any such promises be made legally binding and enforceable by a authority not under Trump’s control?

Also, no new tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations.
