If Democrats take over the House and Senate and Trump gets impeached, can we impeach Vance and Johnson as well? And if they are all taken out of power, who does that leave to lead our country? Because the people that are all in power now have no business being there.

Remember that impeachment in the House needs only a simple majority, but conviction and removal by the Senate requires a 2/3 supermajority, 67 Senators if there are no vacancies. There's no way it happens without Republican votes. Even if Trump somehow gets so far out there that some R's join in pushing him out, that would surely be the end of it; we'd have President Vance.

Still strictly the right thing to do, in any case.

Remember that articles of impeachment will go absolutely nowhere in the House of Representatives unless the Speaker of the House is involved!

Jerry Weiss's avatar

You are absolutely right Luana. The other thing to remember is that Impeachment will be successful only if a critical mass of Republicans joins the effort. It takes 9 Republicans to remove the Speaker.

That does not mean we should surrender in advance. It means we must work very hard to persuade moderate Republicans (of whom there are many) to honor their oath of office. It's not an easy task. But let's not refuse to even try.

With a blue tsunami sweeping the house, we won't need any Repubs to remove the Speaker. He'll have no choice but to hand the gavel back to Hakeem Jeffries.

Agreed, however, (someone please correct me if I’m wrong and I hope I am) trump got the US Supreme Court to give him permission to do anything he wants with impunity while in office. Let’s not forget that Reps in office are nothing but a bowl of wet noodles.

I can’t say what I think 🤔 so be it! But what I can say is if impeachment did work that would mean more balance even if Vance steps in why? Vance isn’t popular in house or in public! Neither is Bible Mike! Divide would possibly let up or fade!

What did the 2 prior impeachments accomplish?

Expand full comment
E2's avatar

They got a lot of facts into the public record, for posterity and those who care to know - though in the case of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, the better, fuller narrative is the one published by the select committee at the end of 2022.

The impeachments also forced every member in Congress, on each occasion, to go on the record with a definitive vote, which is politically and historically important. For example, Mitch McConnell's legacy will forever be headlined by his vote to excuse Trump, despite his rhetoric.

Yes.

Vance can, and should be, also impeached. That could leave us with Mike Johnson as acting President. He can also be replaced, preferably before the impeachment process, by a more moderate (R). Currently that would require 9 (R) congressmen to call for him to be replaced. If the process is commenced after midterms, there’s a good chance the House can be flipped.

Flipping the Senate is rated as less likely, as currently estimated, but as more Trump induced pain is inflicted on citizens in red states, that can change. There are already some (R) senators quietly on the fence, or strong Ukraine supporters who might get there.

People (many people), will say impeachment “can’t happen”. Don’t believe it !! As more and more of the electorate sees Trump as a monster, AND communicate that to their Senators, more senators will decide they don’t want their careers to go down with Trump’s sh*t (oops, I clearly meant “ship”).

Out of all those Collaborators - who’s the least worst? Grassley caved and buckled under pressure. And he’s decrepit. Bondi perverted laws for her own gain (well, they ALL did). Little Marco? Willing to give up his honor for a seat at the table? And Holman? He should be UNDER the prison. I think it’s special election time. Unprecedented. But here we are.

Trump’s willingness to advance the demands of Putin on the behalf of Russia’s illegal, brutal heinous war against Ukraine, while attempting to intimidate President Zelensky into a capitulation”peace deal” which will more resemble the coerced surrender of a friendly democratic allied state, particularly by withholding support that was already approved by Congress and enroute to being delivered is enough to warrant a charge of treason. My depth of contempt for this excuse for a man and his ally-insulting, election-interfering vice President is astonishing, even for me.

I don’t think he felled as Jack Smith stated Garland stated after he was in office and getting delays getting paperwork was a nightmare read his statement about it was very enlightening. Garland did everything correctly, and he started early even before Congress had asked him to and then of course Trump, the delay king of the United States in the courts and then everybody refusing to speak the whole thing , but with what I understood he started pretty early. I could be incorrect, but I believe that’s what the prosecutor Jack Smith said.

Yes you’re right he was hired by the dept of justice, it’s got to take awhile to gather all the proof. he got a statement from Ivanka Trump and Mike Pence he also got a recording of Trump’s voice telling the proud boys to go down to the capital. You know trump paid for there accomodations and pre made hoodies and shirts? So by the time he gathered all that it took awhile turned it into the judge. He had to go back and make some changes in his paperwork so that was more time. Then he got another court date that’s when Trump delayed it. Fuck poor Jack I feel bad for him. He did all that research all that work and doesn’t get to go to court to present it. Did you get a copy of it?

I absolute believe he should be impeached.

1. He has failed to honor his oath of office and has dishonored the position he holds. He has the responsibility to enforce the laws of the country but has instead broken them by impounding funds appropriated by congress 2. He has destroyed the moral authority of this country by his obscene behavior toward our allies 3. He has ignored the Budapest accord 4. He has shown favoritism toward war criminals, issuing an executive order to protect Netanyahu and siding with Russia in the UN vote on Ukraine 5. He has insisted on taking over Greenland when its not for sale, has talked about Canada as a 51st state, with depravity threatened the people of Gaza with death if they don’t leave via truth social 6. He has publicized his intention to take Gaza and develop it, publishing a depraved video 7. He has allowed Elon Musk to access government information without the appropriate security check, putting the personal information of millions of Americans at risk 8. He openly said Musk was in charge of DOGE (a misnomer) but lied to the courts this was not the case 9. He allowed and even encouraged Musk to gut agencies with only pretextual reasoning - there has been no evidence given, just lies like the dei for burma and the condoms for gaza 10. He has terminated people for spite and for revenge and/or because he didn’t think them loyal to him 11. He has destroyed USAid and removed adequate staffing from parks 12. He created the emergency to clearcut public land with his tarriff on Canada 13. He made a joke out the cabinet with the complicity of congress by appointing loyalists with agendas that go against the meaning of americs 14. There is blatant corruption, closing down agencies with investigative power (and investigations) over his friends 15. He had put americans at risk by the gutting of the cdc 16. Acted against the constitution by restricting freedom of speech, freedom of the press

There are so many more things but I have run out of time.
