Dear Congressional Dems:

DELAY.

DENY.

DEFEAT.

DESTROY.

EVERY REPUBLICAN PROPOSAL.

EVERY DAY AND EVERYWHERE.

The past 72 hours have shown exactly what the trumpist/magats values are (or rather aren't). Focus, resist, insist on keeping our democracy alive and well.

Alive? Maybe, but "well"? I'm pretty sure that train has left the station, it's barely on life support, and they will be cutting the funding for that soon.

It would be nice to have the bill number, a more detailed description of what it proposes, and finally which Rs voted against it.

Expand full comment
Helen Avner's avatar

No Rs voted against it. It would have needed 8 Dems to advance (needs 60), and all Dems voted against.

Alan Richardson's avatar

Helen, you are correct. The bill failed because of the filibuster rule, it failed to receive the required 60 votes to move forward. However, the article is unclear on this.

Oh, thanks for clarifying that! I thought it was 52-47 against, meaning 5 or so Republicans voted against it. Too bad that none of them did the right thing.

Arrgggg. I’m flipping disgusted by those that voted in this administration. 2 years from now we democrats take charge of both houses and in 4 years Democrats will have to take charge of everything!

We must fight for the rights for everyone including the rights of immigrants who came to escape the oppression of their own country. Once immigrants are pushed out, farmers are going to start screaming because of the lack of labor, the cost of food is going to skyrocket. Then people are going to start screaming “I didn’t vote for this!”. Yes you did!

It partly depends on whether they fight voter purges, provisional ballots, & other ways Republicans choose who gets to vote in states they control

It's a good beginning. Let's see if the Dems hold together. I have serious doubts about Fetterman, and Schumer has no spine.

I loved watching and listening to him when he was Lt Gov during Trumps last term. Strokes change people personality and mindset. After my mom has one she became meaner and started cursing. I’m not sure what he’s doing/saying is part of that????

Frustrating that 47 of them voted to pass it. In a country that does not prioritize maternal fetal health, they are so focused on taking away pregnant person's rights. Dangerous to be pregnant in the USA.

Attention Democrats in the House and Senate. Please always remember that Republicans have not and will not play nice. They have no interest in compromise. If you are ever in doubt about how to treat them just ask yourselves, what would Tony Soprano do??
