The Senate Minority Leader predicted that voters are going to abandon Republican candidates who stand by Trump, and Democrats will back in the Senate majority soon.
I have been praying everyday that the Democrats win both the house and senate next year. The Dems need to remain laser focused and not do anything to risk this chance. It’s our only hope to end this presidency.
I have no confidence in the current Democratic leadership, especially Schumer. So, I wouldn't bet on Dems winning back the Senste, unless there is wholesale leadership change
I think the leadership as a whole is fine. Booker, Klobuchar, Murray, Elizabeth Warren. and Tammy Baldwin are also on the leadership team and they do a good job. The leadership is much more than Schumer.---Jason
Not with Chuck in leadership, I want him gone from the Senate ASAP, he's too entrenched in outdated ideas and fantasy that will return to the 80s??90s?? When could we trust Republicans to do anything good for anyone but the rich??? They've been corrupt my entire life (61 years)
He is good at drafting Democratic Senate candidates. I will give him that. I don't think he believes that the Republicans are sane and going to be normal. His CR vote was a miscalculation based on his belief that Democrats would be blamed for a shutdown.---Jason
He's not, but read my story earlier in the day. There will be at least 3-5 new, younger Senate Democrats soon. I think Schumer might retire if Democrats take back the Senate and the White House by 2028.--Jason
I am more concerned about Dems with "fire in the belly" running for office and winning than the ages of current Democrats in the House and in the Senate. Also, this "when they go low, we go high" stuff has not helped the Dems one bit.
Im a boomer that can appreciate that people younger than myself have a lot to contribute and have a different perspective that we should be open to. So your attempt to shame me as being young and dumb does not hold water
I have to say I am not impressed that Schumer is “predicting the future” when he should be in “hair on fire” mode and ACTING forcefully, as some others are (Booker, Van Hollen, Walz, the four Congressional members who just went to El Salvador…we need bold and different). The Democratic Party needs to evolve much more strongly. We definitely need strong leaders now, and waiting until 2026 is not enough. And I am a sixties protester, five years older than Schumer. Even some of us older folks get how serious this situation is.
Seriously, they MUST get Americans to reframe. The propaganda machine is too powerful. Everything bad that actually happens, plus every fear, every concern, sticks to the Democratic Party. They will get wiped out unless and until they get Americans to reframe. They have to clean the fake shit off themselves.
There are two ways to do it. One is to disband entirely, then reconstitute under a different name and new leadership. The other is to say that America is dead, so everything that exists today, has to be reconsidered. Including the Constitution. Including work and money. Including the USD. Everything must be subject to redesign.
Either approach can work, but I don’t believe any other approaches can. Trying to peel off MAGA voters is a losing strategy. The brand is damaged beyond repair. Getting people to disregard the past entirely and focus on the future instead, is what the Democratic Party needs to do.
Schumer is naive. He thinks the Democrats won’t lose their base between now and next year. That’s quite an assumption.
But I’m an American and I’m pissed. And he isn’t tracking.
I need the Democrats to promise me that they will go to war against fascist propaganda and oligarchic control over media and politics.
I need them to say “Old Republican America is dead, irreparably broken, f**cked beyond recognition. We must rebuild something very different on top of the ashes the Republicans have left.”
I don’t want to hear “America is fine structurally, but the direction has been bad, and we think we can slowly and slightly change the direction without changing how things work.” That is not true to me.
Instead, be revolutionary. Promise profound structural and economic changes. Promise to go to war on fascism and fascist propaganda. Don’t ask me to pretend everything is fine.
Maybe not, but think you’ll see the beginning of the end soon. Fascist states reliably destroy their host societies very quickly. We have that to look forward to.
When sociopathic assholes and grifters and fascists get power, they don’t use it to build or grow, they use it to segregate, isolate and destroy.
And they always make lots of mistakes, because they don’t care about anything but power, and they prioritize ideology over expertise. Regardless of how they finally work themselves into an existential crisis — a war, a recession, a liquidity crisis — they never get out; it’s reliably fatal.
This is the fate that awaits us, and it’s because we have no defenses or even the will to turn down the firehose of lies in the media. They develop logic and narratives for pinning blame for anything and everything on Congress and Democrats. As long as that’s the stew the majority are swimming in, there’s zero hope. Zero.
So, the Stephen Miller-Bibi-Putin-Orban-MAGA-Trump boulder will roll downhill from here on, even if all those individuals were removed tomorrow.
I’m not saying there’s no hope of eventually rebuilding America. I’m just saying the Democratic Party would be wise to call America broken and offer to build something new on the ashes, rather than to keep pretending there’s still an emergency exit we can take. All hope for America and Americans now lives in the future after this regime destroys us and itself.
I think it’s a pretty safe to bet that this will happen before you turn 62. We’re just one horribly misguided decision away from collapse in multiple ways.
I told friends in early March that I was cautiously optimistic about retaking the House, but that it would take perhaps a generation to retake the Senate. Now I see a (faint) ray of hope, It's going to take a lot more damage from Trump to put a Democratic majority back in the Senate. Here in Texas, John Cornyn will be defending his Senate seat and, like it or not, he's a shoo-in. And why? If Texas GOP voters are willing to reelect a weasel who abandoned them while hundreds were freezing to death in a catastrophic winter storm then they will certainly reelect a scandal-free Texan who has occupied his Senate seat for over 20 years. Unless, of course, he loses the primary to a scandal-ridden cheat and crook...................I give you Ken Paxton. This is the one scenario where I see the possibility of putting a Democrat in that seat. However, I'm not a pessimist, but I am a realist. It's going to take a major change in the mindset of the American voter to reset our political landscape. They are going to have to come to the realization that there are much more important issues in this Country that the price of fucking eggs!
Paxton is actually more toxic than Cornyn— as in Mark Robinson toxic. Polling shows that were Paxton to win the GOP primary next year, he would be polling even or worse behind a generic Dem candidate.
Still I’m highly skeptical of Paxton losing a safe red Senate seat, but it would be a big deal to TX Rs. And if Paxton drags down Hot Wheels too, even better.
I think this is a real possibility, unfortunately there will be a colossal mess to clean up. I’m sick of having to clean up REPUBLICAN’S messes. I would like it if they cleaned up their OWN MESSES for a change.
I’m a bit skeptical myself. If Dems recruit candidates that want to fight the FDJT regime (in all states), there could be some upset R-to-D Senate flips in Iowa (especially with the highly unpopular MAGA governor not running for reelection) and potentially Alaska. If they flip any surprise seats originally written off, even better.
Rachel Bitecofer says that even with the vicious gerrymandering post 2020 census, Dems could still flip 40 or more House seats. If that holds true across the board, the Senate could flip back.
Imagine if there was a SCOTUS seat available in 2027– but Trump wouldn’t be able to fill it with a Federalist Society hack. Schumer would.
If Schumer is smart enough to tell Trump NO! I'm not going to make a bet on that one. I'm predicting dems are so ineffective, even if they take the senate, that Trump will get a SC pick or...the SC justices who are going to retire anyway read the political winds and retire now.
Schumer will absolutely tell FDJT "no" on filling a SCOTUS vacancy. He might give him a list of Biden judges but most likely thing for Schumer would be to pull a McConnell on him. Let the vacancy sit open for a Dem president to fill.
Yes... With new and younger leadership. Time to retire, Chucky.
Knowing the Senate that younger leader will probably be in their mid-60s when Schumer retires.---Jason
Unfortunately, I agree! Schumer should’ve talked about his own plans to retire though. He is a drag on Senate Dems with his Bidenesque hubris.
I agree! We, need Youngblood
I have been praying everyday that the Democrats win both the house and senate next year. The Dems need to remain laser focused and not do anything to risk this chance. It’s our only hope to end this presidency.
I think we need to be bold and aggressive. And younger - much younger.
We can't wait til Nov 2026! We need to work on GOP Congress members!
And local leaders.
We don't have elections until November 2026, so we have to wait.---Jason
I have no confidence in the current Democratic leadership, especially Schumer. So, I wouldn't bet on Dems winning back the Senste, unless there is wholesale leadership change
I think the leadership as a whole is fine. Booker, Klobuchar, Murray, Elizabeth Warren. and Tammy Baldwin are also on the leadership team and they do a good job. The leadership is much more than Schumer.---Jason
We need a FACE OF Democratic LEADERSHIP NOT A GROUP AT A press conference
Except for Booker and Warren, all the others are too mealy mouthed, too vague, too non combative. We must become Aggressive for Democracy
Schumer needs to go next. He is too mired in the politics of 50 years ago. His time has come and gone.
Hopium pipe. Haha! Good one Jason
Not with Chuck in leadership, I want him gone from the Senate ASAP, he's too entrenched in outdated ideas and fantasy that will return to the 80s??90s?? When could we trust Republicans to do anything good for anyone but the rich??? They've been corrupt my entire life (61 years)

Same. I’m tired of it. We all are I hope.
Hoping you are retiring and wont be returning. Replaced by a younger Dem
He's not, but read my story earlier in the day. There will be at least 3-5 new, younger Senate Democrats soon. I think Schumer might retire if Democrats take back the Senate and the White House by 2028.--Jason
Ugh but more young Dems will be great!
I am more concerned about Dems with "fire in the belly" running for office and winning than the ages of current Democrats in the House and in the Senate. Also, this "when they go low, we go high" stuff has not helped the Dems one bit.
Agreed.
So you think younger means better. I hope you don’t run for any office in America.
Im a boomer that can appreciate that people younger than myself have a lot to contribute and have a different perspective that we should be open to. So your attempt to shame me as being young and dumb does not hold water
Chrisie
I never said young and dumb. Those are your words.
Spot on. The youngest voted for Trump.
Hoping that senate and house go democrat!
Their only chance will require getting rid of Chuck and the other dinosaurs.
I have to say I am not impressed that Schumer is “predicting the future” when he should be in “hair on fire” mode and ACTING forcefully, as some others are (Booker, Van Hollen, Walz, the four Congressional members who just went to El Salvador…we need bold and different). Since I, like Schumer am a Jew, I will say....
From yournlips to G-ds ear.
Amen.
I hope he's right. The problem is Chuckie will still the be the weak and ineffective majority leader he's always been.
With less members, you want him to be Superman?
You lost me at “Chuck Schumer predicts…”.
Seriously, they MUST get Americans to reframe. The propaganda machine is too powerful. Everything bad that actually happens, plus every fear, every concern, sticks to the Democratic Party. I kind of agree with you but I think it's going to take a long time. I am 58 and won't see the end of it in my lifetime.
Maybe not, but think you’ll see the beginning of the end soon. Fascist states reliably destroy their host societies very quickly. We have that to look forward to.
