If they finally realize the needs of their constituents it is a good thing. Medicaid neeeds to be saved one way or another. I am sorry they don’t work on principle but on fear of loss of their seats.

The needs of their constituents? Hahaha

These spineless soulless republicans don’t want to be voted out. Period.

Fear almost always produces results.

Leverage must be used by Dems to save more than Medicaid. It would just be the start of negotiations.

With all the plane crashes, how about getting back all the FAA people cut?

Or the immigration staff cut?

Or the thousands of other essential workers let go?

Dems need to have an extensive menu of demands.

Don’t settle for one item as a victory while losing everything else.

Democrats have no leverage right now until it comes time to blow up their idea of a budget, which cuts Social Security and Medicare so GOP can fulfill their promise to their oligarch friends by cutting their taxes. This is one big pile of poo that voters have gotten us into, and it's going to get uglier before we can crawl out. And make no mistake, it will be Democrats that help us crawl out AGAIN.

If they cut Medicaid, most rural hospitals will go under. And Medicaid pays for long-term nursing care for most American seniors. Many of those will go out of business too. That will make for a lot of unhappy people.

Expand full comment

It also covers many of our home caregivers to keep us out of nursing home. I can't survive in a nursing home they can't provide for what I need. If I lose my medical which I'm already struggling to keep I lose my caregivers and I can't survive.

Yes I need my IHSS providers. Already my disability is just at the edge for Medi-Cal. I get a teeny raise and the reduce my teeny food stamps. I can't get them to count my large uncovered medical expenses. Still working on it. IHSS already works horribly for disabled folks.

I may have to go back to working disabled and work an hour a month from home in small increments for my friend. That's all I can manage. But if they reduce or get rid of working disabled I'm screwed.

My diet is too strict for a snf. I can't be around fragrances or sounds or light and need people masked around me. And who would pay for it anyway. I have no family to care for me. I live with my

81 y/o mom. There are many worse off than I am. I am grateful to live in California as at least they will try to keep some of our programs running.

I feel your pain! I’m in High desert Apple Valley. I am SO thankful i’m in CA we do have resources

Expand full comment

I hope we keep them. It is possible that if the federal government cuts too much Medicaid that they will have to take some of our programs. The working disabled program is essential. And so is the level that you can get food stamps and Medicaid. Already the Medicaid one is higher than a lot of States but way too low for disabled folks.

It will lead to a lot of deaths, too. If that happens, will will pin those deaths on them, PUBLICLY!

Didn't make a nickels worth of difference in Covid terms.

Expand full comment

No, it didn’t. That is a tragedy. However, this will be caused by trump’s disregard for the needs of the people by taking away the funding that keeps these folks alive and having the best life they can have in their situations. There is absolutely no reason for cutting off Medicaid, or Medicare and Social Security for that matter.

Expand full comment

Might get them off of their behinds and to the polls next election. The reasons that Medicaid is being cut off is because they can cut it off. Medicare can be cut, and SS too, if they dare. Veterans services can be cut, because they can cut them. I am sure you see how that works. They will do what we gave them license to do. See you next election.

It also pays for many disabled like myself who without it would be dead

I love the fact that Democrats lead by Hakeem Jeffries are all going to vote against this resolution but the Republicans are all falling apart at least I hope that they have found their spine. And they are very much aware that if they vote for this resolution for that tax cut let’s just say they will no longer be in the House. So this is what happens when you are beholden to The Orange Felon.

Being beholden to the 🍊💩🤡 also means being beholden to elmusko’s $bn fund to primary his opponents. How else did we get the cabinet of deplorables ⚫️

I don't think the Democrats should do one bloody thing to help the Republicans; I remember all the effort Repubs have put into opposing prior Dem efforts out of pure spite.

Let it be on the Repubs to shut the government down and tank the billionaire tax cuts.

Expand full comment

Why don’t they take pay cuts to their own self? I mean they haven’t done anything to help their constituents. All they ever do is give tax breaks to the wealthy and then cut services for the least of us. They are supposed to work for all of us.

They just gave themselves raises. Those of us on Social Security never get raises.

We got a 2%raise but Medicare raises its monthly premiums so yes, it's like we don't get a raise

They also hold clown show hearings where they subpoena Russian agents and show photos of the former president’s son’s ding-a-ling.

How pathetic; only a handful of Republicans have a conscience. Or do they? Are they opposing Johnson’s budget because cutting Medicaid would hurt the disabled? Or is it because they might not get re-elected? What is more pathetic is that “Johnson’s budget “ has tried to figure out what to take away from hard working, tax paying citizens, especially the poor and defenseless so THE RICH CAN GET MORE TAX CUTS! 🤬

Most likely, it is the fear of NOT getting reelected.

A reminder that many of them say one thing, do another. My guess is that some are publicly saying things because there’s some awareness of what their constituents are saying (they’re getting calls, etc)

Ultimately - look at what they DO.

How do they vote?

We’ve seen this before.

“So concerned”…. then voting for the horrible things (many horrible things) - many of them are protecting themselves (and their own tax cuts)

Expand full comment

They are more concerned about their own personal agenda to save their seats than concerns about their constituents in their states! It’s so obvious that they don’t give a damn about anyone but themselves and their careers! It’s pathetic and so sad that their narrative has nothing to do with serving the people and helping them live a better life! Most people on Medicaid are living in poverty and have disabilities FFS! They are not only spineless they’re corrupt politicians who should be disgraced and disqualified from their posts! NOW!

I’ll believe it, when I see it. They fear their lord and master, more than they care about the folks who need Medicaid. If they would all vote in RFK JR and Tulsi Gabbard, and not care about our country as a whole. They sure as hell, don’t care about the poor folks on Medicaid. None of them should be voted back in, if they don’t stand up to the oligarchy going on. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Which is the lesser of two evils? Tax cuts for the rich or a sizeable budget for our military defense?

At the moment, it seems a large part of the military spending for Ukraine is in the form of weapons made in the good ol’ USA. Sooo, for once a big military budget, is the lesser evil 😈

Don't anyone think for one tiny bilisecond that they care about the people in their districts. They are just afraid of being on the unemployment line. That's it period. I live in a very red state with a real idiot governor. And believe me if we could get him out there would be a lot of us jumping for joy. I don't know why voters are so beholden to these people who don't give a hoot whether the voters live or die. Saint Ronnie

Believe me, after hearing from Trump with his tantrums and threats—they’ll cave. Just like they ALWAYS DO!

Let us hope not. If they all stood up to him with the threat of impeachment, he would cave because he could not bear the humiliation of being thrown out of office by his own Party!

I LOVE your optimism—and I agree to a point—But I do not believe that aside from being shot with a tranquilizer dart and literally carried out of his office, tRump would NEVER agree to leave on his own steam. They could have him forcibly removed. If we get Democrats in those vacant seats there is hope, at least in the House. I truly don’t have any hope that any Republican in office right now would vote for impeachment or against anything that trump wants. They are all compromised.

It is important to acknowledge positive acts as well.
