Irony.
We have had – measured by expectations – a relatively “normal” election with respect to acknowledging losses, not fighting and yelling, “Rigged” with every Republican loss. And then the one state (Other than some California House districts) that has to take a lot of time because it is just so close happens to be Arizona, home of the election denier and truther, Q-anon central, and it must be Kari Lake’s race for governor, queen of the election deniers.
Obviously, it was only a matter of time before Trump came in with the “assumed” explanation from his Truth Social Account:
I assume everyone is watching Arizona as the great Kari Lake’s easy election win is slowly, yet systematically, being drained away from her, and from the American people. This is a very sad thing to watch. Mail in Ballots, long election counts, many day elections, machines that very few people understand, massive counting centers, and more, are an American disaster. Our elections have become an unreliable joke, and the whole world is watching!
What Trump doesn’t want people to understand is that when elections come down to races divided by less than a percentage point, this country has always taken time to count the absentee ballots, ballots from overseas, and others. But people like mail-in voting because it is safe, secure, and is just easier than making a special trip to stand in line.
Actually, obviously – it’s giving him too much credit. He doesn’t care if the count is perfectly accurate. This is a new strategy, muddy-up results, decrease faith in election integrity, coming closer and closer to anarchy. One of the midterm “victories” was the fact that people knew that “democracy itself” was on the line and voted to “keep it.”
Irony. Of all the races that had to come down to the last batch, it was the one with the most adamant election conspiracy theorists. Trump doesn’t get it. If Lake had been significantly ahead on election night, it would’ve been called. Democrats are not adding votes. The count is being watched by members of both parties and neutral officials.
It is just how it is during the Trump era, which – fortunately, is significantly diminished through this very midterm election.
