Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake and Maria Bartiromo laid the groundwork for Lake to claim that the election was stolen on Fox News.
Video:
Bartiromo asked, “Kari, is, is it true that your opponent, Katie Hobbs, is actually in charge of elections? I mean, she’s the secretary of state, right? So is she at the end of the day the one who’s in charge of an election that involves her”
Lake answered, “Partially, yes. She has — she will be the one that would certify the election. She has a lot to do with registration, voter registration, all kinds of things, the voter rolls and advising counties on how many ballots they’ll need and such.”
Bartiromo got to the heart of it, “Why didn’t she recuse herself? Why didn’t she recuse herself? She’s part of the election.”
Lake responded, “That’s a very good question. And we called for her to recuse herself July of last year, of 2021, right after we got into the race recognizing that there’s a major ethical problem there. Obviously, just the optics of it looks bad. And she didn’t do that even though many people have been calling for her to recuse herself. It creates problems, to say the least.”
Republicans didn’t call on Brian Kemp to recuse himself when he was secretary of state and ran for governor of Georgia in 2018.
Apparently, only Democrats are required to recuse themselves.
It is easy to see where Lake and Bartiromo were going with this questioning. If Lake loses, she is going to claim that there was fraud and that the election was stolen.
Kari Lake has been promising every day that the Republican votes are coming, but the lead for Katie Hobbs continues to grow. If Lake loses, she could be inciting violence with her baseless Arizona version of the big lie.
