‘Why Would Anything Change?’ Trump Sees Great Victory, Straight Path to Nomination

Donald Trump has always been dangerous and unpredictable, but never more so than now. As a practical matter, if DOJ does intend to file indictments, it should do so as soon as possible now, while the rest of the GOP holds the “Blue Wave” (Historically speaking) against Trump. As Trump says, he did great: Quotes from Mediaite in Fox Interview:

“There is a fake news narrative that I was furious—it is just the opposite,” Trump told Fox News. “The people I endorsed did very well. I was batting 98.6% in the primaries, and 216 to 19 in the general election—that is amazing.”

Any of us could come out 100% if we held our endorsements to those who were almost sure to win, many of the candidates running unopposed. Moreover, if he adds two losses out of three senate races outstanding, those 21 losses will include a loss of the U.S. Senate.

But Trump thinks the nomination is his and won’t be changing plans:

“All these guys that are winning are my people. I really think we had great candidates that performed very well. Marco performed very well—I held a rally for him on Sunday. J.D. Vance performed very well. Johnson won.”

Trump is, of course, avoiding the fact that in a midterm with Biden’s approval rating low and the Republicans defending he listed were all defending Republican seats. He also left out Oz, whom he campaigned for on Saturday night. He left out that Herschel Walker is trailing Brian Kemp by three to four points in a winnable seat with a normal candidate. There are those and a significant number of House Representatives that were not supposed to lose but did.

Reports are that Kayleigh McEnany tried to talk some sense into Trump, from Mediate’s summary of her quotes:

We had tremendous success,” Trump told Fox News Digital of the outcome. “Why would anything change?” he mused, regarding his potential 2024 announcement, which could reportedly come as early as next week.

Trump’s former press secretary, Kayleigh McEnany, urged him Wednesday to postpone his major announcement next week and wait to announce his 2024 run until after the Georgia runoff for the U.S. Senate in December. McEnany, who is now a host on Fox News, also made clear DeSantis should go to Georgia to help ensure Herschel Walker wins to runoff, not Trump.

McEnany’s analysis is rock solid, surprisingly. However, challenging Trump out loud about DeSantis being the one to go to Georgia and bring Georgia home for Republicans will almost guarantee that Trump will go to Georgia to “rally” and McEnany should know that better than anyone.

As for Trump’s plans. It is doubtful that he will see his announcement as a negative to Herschel Walker, and Trump has his own troubles (possible indictments.) It will be very difficult to get Trump to move a pre-announced November 15th “big announcement” back.  That announcement surely would impact Georgia and not positively.
