The nation might be in for a long wait to find out who controls Congress, but Democrats are set for a big night in picking up 4-6 new governors.
Video of Jim Messina on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House:
Messina said, “In the governor’s races, Democrats are going to have a big night and pick up 4-6 governors races. If they can hold onto the big three in the midwest that is the best setup for 2024. Wisconsin where we have a locked race might be the most swingy of all of them. Pennsylvania, where you had a great report, Josh Shapiro is walking away with it. And then third would be the absolutely crucial state of Michigan where six months ago you would have thought Gretchen Whitmer was in deep trouble, terrible numbers. Post-Dobbs they’re now walking away with that race. So probably we get two, maybe we get all three, and that is just so important.”
Messina was not including Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin in the Democratic pickups, because they already hold those seats.
Gubernatorial races are so important for the residents of each state and for the presidential landscape in 2024. The best way to stop Trump from stealing an election is to have a Democratic governor. The Kari Lake show gets tons of headlines, but she is the exception, not the norm in this year’s gubernatorial races.
The 2022 midterm is not the sort of election where one party is going to dominate up and down the ballot, and Democrats could put themselves in a perfect position to stop any plots to steal the next presidential election with a big night in gubernatorial races.
