Former GOP Congressman Destroys The Republican Freedom Lie

Former GOP Rep. David Jolly discussed why the Republican narrative of freedom is false.

Video:

Jolly said after a clip of Josh Shapiro talking about freedom was played on MSNBC’s Deadline: White House:

Josh Shapiro did something incredibly smart there that I think all national Democrats should pay attention to. He dismantled the Republicans’ narrative of freedom. Republicans shout freedom as this declaration. Democrats embrace it as a calling for policy changes, right?

How do you create true freedom of opportunity, equality of opportunity for all walks of life and education and health care and the economy. And I think, look, I’m close to the Florida politics which we’re seeing play out in Florida is a declaration of freedom you can be anything you want to be, do everything you want, but that’s not true if you’re an LGBT teacher or lost a family member to covid because the governor denied mask mandates or a corporation like Disney who speaks out using the voice of your shareholders and employees.

The Republican narrative of freedom is a false one and what Shapiro did is dismantled it and said as a potential next governor of the state of Pennsylvania, as a democratic standard barrier what I’m about to tell you is freedom in America could look different than what you’ve been promised in the last six years. It’s a powerful message.

When Republicans talk about freedom, they mean their freedom to take away the rights of others. Republicans want potential mass shooters to have unlimited access to guns so that they have the freedom to kill as many people as possible. Republicans want the freedom to make healthcare choices for women. Republicans don’t want anyone to be free to speak out against them without consequences.

The Republican definition of freedom is a lie. The GOP does not mean freedom for all, and they aren’t interested in the limitless potential and possibilities that come with true freedom.

The Republican definition of freedom involves their freedom to destroy the liberties of others.
