Critical Poll Shows Majority Of Americans Want Trump Investigations To Continue

Some good news. Most Americans want Trump investigated further.

If there has been one pattern that has held true regarding Trump and his political (and personal) life, it is that peeling away the unending layers of secrecy seems always to reveal shocking behavior, often illegal. Now, Trump is being investigated for possibly collecting the country’s most valuable secrets in order to… do what people who collect those secrets do? More investigation is critical, and thus it’s critical that the investigation has broad public support. It does, and so do the “other investigations.”

According to NBC News:

A clear majority of American voters believe that the various investigations into alleged wrongdoing by former President Donald Trump should continue, according to a national NBC News poll conducted after the FBI searched Trump’s Florida home and recovered “Top Secret” documents earlier this month.

According to the survey, 57% of registered voters say that the investigations into alleged wrongdoing by Trump should continue, while 40% say they should stop. By party, 92% of Democratic voters, 61% of independents but just 21% of Republican voters think the investigations into Trump should continue.

The rule of law isn’t self-implementing. The Constitution is not a constant motion machine. It is all just words on paper without a public willing to respect the laws and constitutional order. Though it is deeply disturbing to see that 40% of the country would prefer not to know what Trump has really done (Almost an admission they know it’s bad), a 17-point majority is about as big as one can hope for in this environment and one would think that 20 to 25 point majorities may be available if the public learns the entire story as to what Trump planned to do with those files.

Is a 17-point majority enough to sustain the rule of law and constitutional order when 40% of the country seems ready to leave it behind? Unfortunately, we cannot know the answer to that right now. We only know that having to ask the question is indicative of a big problem already. But it could be worse. It could be 50-50. According to NBC, it is not.
