Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY) can’t win the 2024 Republican nomination, but she can make Trump’s life hell.
Video of Cheney on NBC’s Today show:
Cheney said:
Well, what I’m going to do Savannah, is spend the next several months completing my work in congress, obviously completing my work representing the people of Wyoming we have a tremendous amount of work left to do on the January 6th committee, and also though I’m going to be making sure that people all around this country understand the stakes of what we’re facing understand the extent to which we’ve now got one major political party my party which has really become a cult of personality, and we’ve got to get this party back to a place where we’re embracing the values and the principles on which it was founded and talking about you know fundamental issues of civics, fundamental issues of what does it mean to be a constitutional republican.
Liz Cheney could not beat Trump for the Republican nomination in 2024, but it is easy to see her raising a ton of money and staying in the primary until the end to follow Trump around and use her national platform to relentlessly discuss Trump’s crimes and the threat that he presents to democracy.
If 2024 were to play out like the 2016 Republican primary, the field would be huge, but it will quickly thin out, and Cheney could stick around until the end, following Trump around and reminding Independents of why they should never vote for Donald Trump.
Trump got Cheney knocked out of the House, but he set himself up for a bigger problem in 2024 and beyond.
