Republicans Are Doomed As 58% Of Americans Think Trump Committed A Crime After FBI Raid

A new snap poll found that Trump’s support in the 2024 Republican primary went up after the FBI search, but 58% of Americans think he committed a crime.

The new Politico/Morning Consult Poll found:

In mid-July, 53% of Republican voters and Republican-leaning independents said they would vote for Trump if the 2024 primary were being held today.

Our polling today finds Trump with 57%. The next closest candidate is Florida Gov. RON DESANTIS at 17% — down from 23% in the July poll. No other candidate breaks double digits.

The big number in the same poll is that by a margin of 58%-31% Americans think that Trump committed a crime while he was president.

Republicans Are Doomed

The problem for the Republican Party is that Donald Trump has a hold on Republican primary voters, and it is going to be difficult for any other candidate to defeat him.

The idea that the Republican Party could ditch Trump but keep Trumpism is being disproven with new polling.

Republicans may be stuck with Trump unless he is convicted of a crime and disqualified from holding office, but Donald Trump might also be unelectable.

It is very possible that Republicans nominated Donald Trump, and then the party is immediately doomed to defeat.

Republicans can tell themselves that Trump’s popularity growing with their base after the FBI raid is a good thing, but in reality, it reveals that the Republican Party is out of step with the rest of the country, and could have zero chance of winning if Trump is the nominee in 2024.
