Jordan said on the House floor, “We thought the Democrats were obsessed with President Trump, but Justice Thomas is a close second. This bill is simply the latest installment of the Democrats’ campaign to delegitimize and attempt to intimidate the United States Supreme Court.”
According to Jordan, Congress carrying out its constitutional duty by passing laws is an intimidation campaign against the Supreme Court.
Rep. Jordan is suggesting that Supreme Court gets to make laws through their rulings, and this is completely false. Our constitutional system of checks and balances is designed for Congress to make laws, and the Supreme Court to weigh in on the constitutionality of those laws. It is the job of Congress to pass laws, and the marriage equality bill is the codification of the beliefs of the vast majority of Americans.
Congress passing laws is not an intimidation campaign against the Supreme Court, but Jim Jordan, who was a co-conspirator in Trump’s coup plot, showed his desire to destroy the foundation of American democracy.
