Hillbilly Bankruptcy: The J.D. Vance Campaign Is Broke

Ohio voters are not enthused about Trump-endorsed Senate candidate J.D. Vance. His campaign is broke, and small donors are staying away.

Fortunes turned with Trump’s endorsement in April, and Vance caught a windfall heading into the May 3 primary, but he hasn’t seemed able to translate the win into financial support. Eight weeks later, the campaign was in the red, reporting about $628,000 in the bank and $883,000 in debt—a deficit of more than $250,000.

The handful of wealthy super PAC donors have outraised the Vance campaign nearly six to one. And the vast majority of the super PAC’s cash has come from just one person, Republican megadonor and Vance business partner Peter Thiel.

Meanwhile, Vance’s Democratic opponent, Rep. Tim Ryan (D-OH) raised $9.1 million in the second quarter and listed 90,000 new donors. The Ryan campaign also reported that almost all of their donations were less than $100.

Donald Trump has shown with his 2022 Senate endorsements that his political instincts are limited to picking celebrity candidates who will be loyal to him and run campaigns just like his.

J.D. Vance is massively failing in Ohio. Voters don’t appear to be interested in him. His campaign is broke, as Donald Trump has saddled Republicans with a potential loser of a candidate in Ohio.
