Despite her ‘Be Best’ anti-bullying initiative, First Lady Melania Trump refused to disavow her husband’s attacks on 16-year-old climate change activist Greta Thunberg this week.
In fact, the First Lady defended her husband’s attacks on Thunberg, saying that it’s okay to bully a teenager as long as that teenager is an activist who “travels the globe giving speeches.”
“BeBest is the First Lady’s initiative, and she will continue to use it to do all she can to help children,” read a statement released by the White House press secretary. “It is no secret that the President and First Lady often communicate differently – as most married couples do.”
The statement continued, “Their son is not an activist who travels the globe giving speeches. He is a 13-year-old who wants and deserves privacy.”
Of course, the White House knows that its outrage over Barron Trump’s name being mentioned during House impeachment hearing is completely phony. Nobody attacked or insulted the president’s youngest son, and they understand that.
To use that moment to defend the president’s actual bullying of a teenage climate activist is just the latest proof of what most of the country has known for years: Melania Trump stands for nothing.
Since Melania Trump refused to stand up to what everyone has acknowledged was Donald Trump’s bullying of a teenager, former Second Lady – and possibly next First Lady – Jill Biden stepped up to do it for her.
On MSNBC on Saturday, Biden said, “You can’t attack children. That’s the bottom line.”

As Jill Biden demonstrated on Saturday, it’s not hard to say that bullying children is wrong. Somehow, the current First Lady was incapable of doing that this week.
