The RNC has become as mobbishly corrupt as Trump these days.
The RNC appears to have strong-armed Trump supporting billionaire “Papa Doug” to donate half a million dollars MORE during his confirmation hearings to be the ambassador to the Bahamas.
A CBS News investigation reveals that Republican National Committee Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel (Senator Romney’s niece, since Republicans are very concerned about nepotism these days) asked Doug Manchester to donate half a million dollars as his confirmation process in the Senate “hung in the balance,” according to emails obtained exclusively by CBS and reported by Jim Axelrod.
Papa Doug had already donated $1 million to Trump’s inauguration.
CBS reports that after Romney McDaniel hit up Papa Doug (what is it with Republicans and their affinity for Big Daddy), he replied by bringing up the two year stalled Senate confirmation, noting that he not supposed to do any donations during this time. So he promises, wink wink, his wife will pay – but only after he is confirmed:
“As you know I am not supposed to do any, but my wife is sending a contribution for $100,000. Assuming I get voted out of the [Foreign Relations Committee] on Wednesday to the floor we need you to have the majority leader bring it to a majority vote … Once confirmed, I our [sic] family will respond!”
“You know what this looks like,” Axelrod said.
“Well — it looks like it to you. But it’s not the facts,” Manchester said. “My wife gave out of separate funds and she in fact loves Donald Trump.”
This isn’t the first time the RNC has been caught flirting with corruption under Trump – the only thing that seems to have actually “trickled down” from his term in office, unlike his tax cuts for the rich.
The RNC was busted for using a firm with ties to Russian intelligence to dig up dirt on Hillary Clinton during the election according to a 2017 report by Politico, which is another nod to the hostile foreign takeover that the RNC and its dark money fundraising arm the NRA have become.
Republicans certainly do not have a lock on corruption- corruption follows power. But not every politician is corrupt, contrary to the great efforts of Republicans and Russian trolls to convince you otherwise.
No matter from which side of the aisle the corruption comes, under Trump the Republicans have reached a new level, operating their entire organization like a mob instead of a political party – which is ironically what they have long accused unions of being. The difference, of course, is unions represent workers while the Republican Party represents only the top 2% as they steal from the rest of us.
