Trump wants to do a dramatic reading of the Ukraine call summary, just like Rachel Maddow does on her show, to defend himself on impeachment.
According to The Washington Examiner:
This is over a phone call that is a good call,” Trump, sitting behind the Resolute Desk, said in an interview with the Washington Examiner. “At some point, I’m going to sit down, perhaps as a fireside chat on live television, and I will read the transcript of the call, because people have to hear it. When you read it, it’s a straight call.
It would be great if Trump read the transcript of the call because what he has released is the edited summary of the call, not the word for word transcript. FDR did not hold fireside chats in which he read transcripts of his phone calls to the American people.
This is a bonkers idea from a president who is so convinced of his excellence as a performer that he thinks he can talk his way out of impeachment by reading the summary of the call. Donald Trump thinks that he will dazzle the American people into opposing impeachment if they will just listen to him read the damning words on the page that summarize his phone call with the president of Ukraine.
What Trump is suggesting is Rachel Maddow style dramatic reading of his Ukraine call summary.
Trump is acting as his own defense team and losing it over impeachment.
Each new idea is worse than the previous one from Trump, as reading the call summary to the nation will only boost support for his impeachment and removal from office.
