The severe breach of security caused by the House Republican impeachment stunt was known about in advance and supported by Trump.
Bloomberg reported:
Trump had advance knowledge and supported a protest by Republicans who told him they planned to barge into a secure hearing room on Capitol Hill where Democrats are holding impeachment testimonies, according to four people familiar with the matter.
Trump on Tuesday met with about 30 House Republicans at the White House to talk about the situation in Syria and the impeachment inquiry. During a nearly two-hour meeting, which focused mostly on the impeachment inquiry, lawmakers shared their plans to storm into the secure room, the people said. Trump supported the action, saying he wanted the transcripts released because they will exonerate him, the people said.
Trump has convinced himself that everyone else is lying about the impeachment investigation. The president thinks that there is some sort of magic transcript that will clear him and that he will get it if Republicans breach a secure room and demand it. House Republicans are lucky that Democrats didn’t have them arrested for entering the room where they didn’t belong and breaching security.
House Republicans engaged in a White House endorsed tantrum.
The protest was both idiotic and illegal, so of course, it was an idea that Trump loved.
It also backfired and highlighted the reality that Republicans can stage stunts, but they can’t dispute the facts are going to get Trump impeached.
