House Oversight Committee chairman Rep. Elijah Cummings passed away (D-MD) from complications due to long term health problems.
Rep, Cummings was a powerful committee chairman and one of the central leaders of the Trump impeachment investigation, but he was also a passionate and dedicated voice fighting for the American people. Cummings had something that is missing in the current political climate. He was a person of decency and integrity. He formed friendships with Republicans and was respected on both sides of the aisle.
Cummings strived to work in a bipartisan way. He even tried to form a relationship with Donald Trump and went out of his way to avoid the fiery rhetoric that defines much of the political dialogue in the country.
Rep. Cummings responded with class after Trump launched and vile and racist attack on his district in Baltimore.

Rep. Cummings was a private person who didn’t discuss his family or health struggles publicly.
He was a giant of the House whose character and leadership void will not be filled.
