Mitch McConnell controls the rules for any Trump impeachment trial, and he has let it be known that he plans to kill Trump impeachment in the Senate.
The Senate Majority Leader is running ads on Facebook promising to kill Trump impeachment.
As the Courier-Journal reported, “A trial would then be held in the Senate, where it would take at least two-thirds (or 67 votes) of the chamber to convict Trump and remove him from office. The chief justice of the Supreme Court presides over the trial. But as majority leader, McConnell would have some power in setting up ground rules for a trial, including timing.”
McConnell has already said constitutionally, there must be a trial in the Senate if the House impeaches Trump, but he controls the timing and the rules.
In other words, Mitch McConnell is planning to rig Trump’s impeachment trial.
This is why the American people need more from Mitt Romney and Susan Collins than concern or saying that Trump did something bad. It won’t matter how concerned they are if these Republican Senators vote for Mitch McConnell’s rigging of Trump’s trial.
Everyone saw McConnell’s move coming before impeachment started. Sen. McConnell is going to do everything in his power to do the bare constitutional minimum to try Trump on any articles of impeachment.
McConnell is going to rig the rules. Trump is going to claim that he was exonerated, and will run on the Senate not convicting him in 2020.
Impeachment is necessary due to Trump trying to get foreign countries to interfere for him in the 2020 election, but unless these Republicans do more than express concern, Trump’s impeachment trial will be a sham.
