Donald Trump on Thursday responded to explosive new reporting regarding a “troubling” promise he made to a foreign leader during a phone call.
According to the initial Washington Post report, “Trump’s interaction with the foreign leader included a ‘promise’ that was regarded as so troubling that it prompted an official in the U.S. intelligence community to file a formal whistleblower complaint with the inspector general for the intelligence community.”
Trump, of course, threw a tantrum about the report and hit social media with a pair of laughable tweets in which he said, “Is anybody dumb enough to believe that I would say something inappropriate with a foreign leader while on such a potentially ‘heavily populated’ call.”
To answer the president’s question: Anybody who’s been paying attention for the past three years knows he is dumb enough to say something inappropriate or dilvulge classified information to a foreign leader – or anybody for that matter.
As NBC News reporter Ken Dilanian pointed out on Thursday, “He’s been cavalier with intelligence right along, so it’s completely credible that he would say something that he didn’t even realize was improper and that a career official flagged.”
In other words, Trump is too stupid to even know when he’s compromising American national security.

We know that Donald Trump doesn’t necessarily know when he’s doing something inappropriate. He gave away code word classified information to the Russian ambassador in the Oval Office that his aides later had to cleanup. He’s been cavalier with intelligence right along. So it’s completely credible that he would say something that he didn’t even realize was improper and that a career official flagged. And it’s not a disagreement. It’s not even something that the official thought was stupid. It’s something they thought compromised the national security of the United States.
Democrats in Congress are working overtime to get all the facts regarding this latest controversy, but the Trump administration – with the help of the Justice Department – is blocking the release of what is sure to be a damning whistleblower complaint against the commander-in-chief.
While Trump will continue to say – with a straight face – that he would never say anything inappropriate, the American people know better. In fact, it’s tough to pinpoint a day over the last three years when he hasn’t said something inappropriate or embarrassing.
If Donald Trump and his protectors at the Justice Department are so confident that he did nothing wrong, they would release all the relevant information immediately.
Instead, the White House and DOJ are again joining forces for a cover-up that pushes this country ever closer to a constitutional crisis.
