Billboards Go Up In Kentucky Urging Voters To Vote Mitch McConnell Out

Billboards are being posted in Kentucky with a message to voters urging them to vote Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell out of office.

According to a statement MoveOn Political Action, the sponsor of the billboards provided to PoliticusUSA:

These first two billboards, both in the Lexington area, aim to hold Sen. McConnell accountable for his refusal to take serious action to confront gun violence or white nationalism after recent mass shootings and white nationalist violence. The billboards have gone up amidst increasing calls for the Senate to vote on background checks and other common sense gun safety measures when it returns from recess in two weeks. McConnell, who as majority leader controls the Senate calendar, appears set on continuing to block such votes.

The billboards are the first tactic in what will be a larger, ongoing campaign to build momentum against McConnell and other vulnerable Republican incumbents ahead of next year’s elections.

In Lexington, MoveOn members commissioned a billboard with the message: “Defends the NRA. Defends racism. Doesn’t defend Kentuckians.” In addition to calling out Mitch McConnell’s repeated refusal to allow the Senate to vote on gun safety measures, the billboard also speaks to McConnell’s refusal to reject President Trump’s racist attacks and promotion of white supremacist ideology. It concludes with the message “Vote Mitch Out.” The billboard is located at 2587 Nicholasville Road and faces North (viewable by drivers heading South).

Majority Leader McConnell is the most hated the United States by his own constituents . McConnell is going to face a tough challenge from Democrat Amy McGrath in the general election, but he has continued to win by following the same playbook of tying his opponent to liberalism and piling up votes in Kentucky coal country. McConnell is going to be difficult to defeat, especially since Trump’s approval rating has dropped 19 points in the state, but still remains at 59%.

The message is being sent loud and clear. It is time for the Senate Majority Leader to go, and if Kentuckians truly love their country, they will vote Mitch out in 2020.
