Donald Trump took to Twitter on Tuesday night to say he was canceling a meeting with Denmark Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen after she told him that she wouldn’t be selling Greeland to him anytime soon.
“[B]ased on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time,” the president said.
Even though Trump was clearly pushing to buy the country, he played off the swift rejection as a good thing, saying that the United States was actually saving a lot of money by not having to meet in Denmark.
“The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct,” Trump said.
Denmark is a very special country with incredible people, but based on Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen’s comments, that she would have no interest in discussing the purchase of Greenland, I will be postponing our meeting scheduled in two weeks for another time….

….The Prime Minister was able to save a great deal of expense and effort for both the United States and Denmark by being so direct. I thank her for that and look forward to rescheduling sometime in the future!

Trump thinks the presidency is his personal playtoy
While Donald Trump is now trying to downplay his desire to buy Greenland, you get the sense it was some sort of childish fantasy of his to purchase another country. He even took time out of his week to tweet out his vision of a Trump-owned Greenland.
I promise not to do this to Greenland! pic.twitter.com/03DdyVU6HA

Like massive military parades and a cool new Space Force, buying Greenland from Denmark was another cartoonish idea coming from a president who views his office as a child’s playtoy, not something that should be taken seriously.
Something tells me that the prime minister of Denmark has more important things to do than entertain a juvenile president of the United States.
