The right is smearing rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) because she refused to go on the Border Patrol’s propaganda tour of a detention facility, and instead stayed to speak with women who are being detained.
AOC refused to be bullied by the Border Patrol
Rep. Joe Kennedy (D-MA) killed the right wing attack on AOC:
.@AOC refused the rest of the staged @CBP tour so we could talk with 13 detained women in tears over lack of access to medicine, showers, their children & basic decency. https://t.co/GjqbulJ7gf

Members of Congress on the tour said that conditions were even worse than they imagined:
Just left the first CBP facility. The conditions are far worse than we ever could have imagined.
15 women in their 50s- 60s sleeping in a small concrete cell, no running water. Weeks without showers. All of them separated from their families.
This is a human rights crisis.

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted a pic of what the women are given to clean their whole bodies with:
CBP made us check our phones.
But one woman slipped me this packet to take with me.
It says “shampoo,” but she told me that this is all they give women to wash their entire body. Nothing else.
Some women’s hair was falling out. Others had gone 15 days without taking a shower. pic.twitter.com/OsaKS0YD9a

Trump Is Trying To Hide His Immigrant Concentration Camps From The World
The detention facilities would not give the House members information:
Spent the morning in TX at Clint and El Paso detention facilities. Big takeaways — 1) @CBP was very resistant to Congressional oversight. They tried to restrict what we saw, take our phones, block photos and video. Atmosphere was contentious and uncooperative.
— Rep. Joe Kennedy III (@RepJoeKennedy) July 1, 2019
2) Facilities are wholly inadequate. Cells maxed to capacity, concrete floors…It felt jail-like. No way to keep a child or innocent human being. Group of 13 women from Cuba were in tears when we spoke with them.
— Rep. Joe Kennedy III (@RepJoeKennedy) July 1, 2019
3) The entire system is broken, rotten and rife with abuse. And Trump doubles down on it despite the growing horror — child detention, metering, Remain in Mexico, threatened ICE raids. Every action he takes exacerbates and entrenches the humanitarian crisis at our nation's feet.

The Humanitarian Crisis That Trump Caused
Trump caused the humanitarian crisis by closing the ports of entry and intentionally inflicting cruel and torturous treatment on migrants. AOC and the other members of the House refused to be lied to. There are good people in this country who are fighting back against what the Trump administration is doing. What Rep. Kennedy described is not American. It is not who we are as a nation, and this stain must be removed from our country at the ballot box in 2020.
