Donald Trump again disgraced the presidency on Monday by attacking his latest sexual assault accuser – writer E. Jean Carroll – while sitting at the Resolute Desk in the Oval Office.
In an interview with The Hill, the president lobbed an apparent attack at Caroll’s physical appearance – his standard defense to such accusations – and said she is “totally lying.”
“I’ll say it with great respect: Number one, she’s not my type. Number two, it never happened. It never happened, OK?” Trump said from the Oval Office.
Trump’s denial comes days after Carroll claimed he raped her in a department store dressing room in the 1990s. It’s a story that – stunningly – has largely been ignored by major media outlets.
As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley noted on Monday, the Sunday news shows ignored the bombshell allegations, while they repeatedly raised the non-issue of former vice president Joe Biden touching women on the shoulder.
There are countless ways Donald Trump has disgraced the presidency over the past two years. Time and again, he hasn’t just failed to live up to the standards of a president of the United States; he can’t even meet the standards required to be a decent human being.
He throws tantrums when things don’t go his way, speaks in profanities, publicly bullies anybody who doesn’t worship him and lies all day, every day.
But there is something particularly troubling about an American president using the setting of the Oval Office to attack a woman he allegedly raped as “not his type.”
Just when you think he can’t debase the presidency any more than he already has, Donald Trump rises to the occasion to do just that.
