For the first time, Elizabeth Warren has passed Bernie Sanders in both a state and national Democratic primary poll.
In the latest The Economist/YouGov Poll, Joe Biden still leads at 26%, but Elizabeth Warren is now at 16%, and Bernie Sanders has fallen to 12%. Sanders even trails undecided voters 14%-12%. Sanders is tied for the lead in one category when voters were asked which candidate would disappoint them if they got the nomination, Sanders was tied for first with Bill DeBlasio at 21%.
The new Monmouth University Poll of Nevada found, “In a field of 24 candidates, Biden holds a clear lead with 36% support among registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters who are likely to attend the February 2020 Nevada caucuses. He is followed by Warren at 19%, Sanders at 13%, South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg at 7%, and California Sen. Kamala Harris at 6%. Other candidates registering at least 1% in the poll are former Texas Rep. Beto O’Rourke (2%), New Jersey Sen. Cory Booker (2%), entrepreneur Andrew Yang (2%), former cabinet secretary Julián Castro (1%), Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (1%), Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar (1%), and author Marianne Williamson (1%). The remaining 12 candidates earn less than 1% or were not chosen by any respondents in the poll.”
Unlike lesser-known candidates who got a bump from mainstream media attention, Elizabeth Warren has built her surge on a large grassroots organization, having policies and plans, and a relentless campaign schedule. As Sen. Sanders has slumped, Warren has risen. In 2016, the Sanders campaign didn’t really take off until Elizabeth Warren decided not to run. Unlike Sanders, Warren is an actual Democrat.
People assumed that Joe Biden would be the problem for Bernie Sanders, but Elizabeth Warren has been the candidate who has popped the Sanders bubble. Elizabeth Warren is rolling and proving to every other candidate in the race that 2020 won’t be like 2016.
