Jared Kushner refused to say that Trump is a racist, and wouldn’t answer when asked if he thought birtherism was racist.
Jared Kushner won’t say that birtherism is racist
Jonathan Swan of Axios asked Kushner about Trump racism and birtherism on Axios on HBO.
Kushner first denied that Trump is a racist, “You can’t not be a racist for 69 years, but then run for president and be a racist. What I’ll say is that when a lot of the Democrats call the president a racist, I think they’re doing a disserve to people who suffer because of real racism in this country..”
Swan asked Kushner if birtherism was racist, then the wheels fell off.
Kushner answered, “Um, look, I wasn’t really involved in that.”
Swan pressed, “I know you weren’t. Was it racist.”
Kushner repeated, “I wasn’t really involved in that.”
Swan asked again, and Kushner said, “Look, I know who the president is, and I haven’t seen anything that was racist.”

Kushner non-answer speaks volumes
It is easy to say that racism is wrong. Birtherism is wrong, but it is impossible for this administration to directly denounce racism because Donald Trump and his policies are racist. Kushner’s I’ve never seen Trump be racist line doesn’t hold up because Swan didn’t ask him if he had ever seen Trump be racist. The question was about birtherism being racist, and the president’s son-in-law danced and dodged without giving a straight answer.
There is a mountain of evidence in Donald Trump’s past that he is a racist, so the idea that he hasn’t been a racist for 69 years is utter nonsense. Trump launched his presidential campaign by calling Mexicans rapists. As president, Trump has called black and Latino majority countries, “shitholes.”
Trump’s racism isn’t up for debate, and his son-in-law’s refusal to admit the truth isn’t fooling anyone.
