Speaker of the House Pelosi reminded the nation that the House sweeping gun control legislation that is being blocked by Mitch McConnell in the Senate.
Pelosi said in a statement provided to PoliticusUSA:
Yesterday’s tragic mass shooting in Virginia Beach has left another community shocked and heartbroken. In the aftermath of this horrific shooting, the prayers of every American are with the victims, their families, friends, and loved ones. Our deepest gratitude goes out to the first responders who have put their lives at risk to keep innocent people safe and provide critical care to those in need.
The daily epidemic of gun violence continues to exact a devastating toll on our schools, community streets, houses of worship and workplaces. Too many communities and too many families have felt the unspeakable pain and anguish caused by gun violence. Honoring our responsibility to act to avert more tragedies, the House has passed commonsense, bipartisan gun violence prevention legislation. The Senate must bring these bills to a vote.
The American people share the grief of the entire Virginia Beach community. May it be a comfort to them as well as the friends and families of those killed that all Americans mourn with them at this terrible time.
The House passed the most sweeping gun control bill in decades, but Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is refusing to bring it to the floor for a vote in the Senate. The investigations into the Trump administration get almost all of the media attention, but House Democrats are doing what voters sent them to Washington to do. Democrats passed a gun control bill that would help to end the daily epidemic of senseless gun violence deaths, but McConnell is blocking it.
Republicans are letting the body count pile up because they would rather see innocent Americans die than lose their checks from the NRA.
The House has delivered common sense gun reform. The shootings are continuing because Mitch McConnell is ignoring the majority of the American people.
