Trump tried one of his nicknames on Pete Buttigieg, but Mayor Pete turned it into the ultimate takedown of the president.
Trump sticks a lame nickname on Pete Buttigieg
Politico reported:
“Alfred E. Neuman cannot become president of the United States,” the president told POLITICO in a 15-minute telephone interview, when asked what he thought of the South Bend, Ind., mayor. Neuman’s freckled, gap-toothed face and oversized ears have for decades graced the cover of the humor magazine Mad.
….
“I’ll be honest. I had to Google that,” he said. “I guess it’s just a generational thing. I didn’t get the reference. It’s kind of funny, I guess. But he’s also the president of the United States and I’m surprised he’s not spending more time trying to salvage this China deal.” (Trade talks between the U.S. and China in Washington ended Friday without an agreement, raising the prospect of an extended tariff war.)
Mayor Pete Made A Devastating Point
Trump is very insecure about his age. He recently deemed himself “young and vibrant.” Buttigieg made a devastating point that stands out to everyone. Buttigieg is young and the future. Trump is older and his presidency is entirely centered around trying to take the country back to an era that doesn’t exist and may never have existed in the way that Donald Trump imagines it.
The president is taking shots at Buttigieg because Mayor Pete is becoming a threat.
Buttigieg has made it clear that he is not going to get into any mud fights with the president, and the best way to respond to Trump’s schoolyard taunts and lame nicknames is to remind the country that Trump is supposed to be leading the nation, not making references to a magazine that most people under age 40 have never heard of.
Trump should stay away from Buttigieg, as his insult has massively backfired.
