Speaker of the House Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) outlined her strategy for investigating Trump, and it is clear that the president is in for a very hard time.
Pelosi said at the Time 100, “This is about being totally free from passion, from prejudice, from politics. It’s about the presentation of the facts, and when we have the facts, we’ll have a better idea of how we go forward. As an existential threat, this administration to our democracy, in terms of our constitution, Article I, the legislative branch spelled out the right to know…I believe impeachment is one of the most divisive paths that we could go down to in our country. But if the facts, the path of fact-finding takes us there, we have no choice. But we’re not there yet.”

Investigations Are A Bigger Threat To Trump Than Impeachment
Impeachment is a process with a definite endpoint. The House votes. If the president is impeached, he is tried in the Senate and either removed or not. Should the Senate decide not to try Trump, the process will die after the House impeaches him. The reason why Trump doesn’t fear impeachment is that the Republican Senate will never vote to convict and remove him.
House investigations are a different story. Investigations can be used to conduct oversight, find facts, and potentially build the case for impeachment against Trump. Investigations don’t have a defined timeline. The House could investigate Trump through the 2020 election, and new revelations could be a constant problem for the president’s reelection campaign.
All former administrations who have been under heavy investigative scrutiny agree that it is hell. Investigations take up time, distract, and cause political problems and crisis regularly.
Nancy Pelosi isn’t given Trump an out by going the quick impeachment route. Instead, she is going to keep impeachment in her back pocket, and hammer Trump with investigations that will reveal off of his activities.
Some Democrats are looking for instant impeachment gratification, but Nancy Pelosi is playing a long game to beat and expose Donald Trump.
