Trump’s nightmare day got even worse as it was revealed that presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner was outed as being a security risk who was denied a classified clearance due to his personal conduct and business interests.
The senior White House official whose security clearance was denied last year because of concerns about foreign influence, private business interests and personal conduct is presidential son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to people familiar with documents and testimony provided to the House Oversight Committee.
Kushner was identified only as “Senior White House Official 1” in committee documents released this week describing the testimony of Tricia Newbold, a whistleblower in the White House’s personnel security office who said she and another career employee determined that Kushner had too many “significant disqualifying factors” to receive a clearance.
Trump has seen the House Judiciary Committee vote to subpoena the Mueller report, the House Ways and Means Committee request his tax returns, and Mueller investigators suggesting that Trump is whitewashing their report.
This day has been a nightmare for Trump. His “total exoneration” moment is gone and feels like it was a thousand years ago. Trump is on a high-speed downward spiral. All of the scandals, lies, and cover-ups are coming home to roost. Days like this are exactly what experts thought might happen when Democrats took over the House.
Trump was prepared for any of this, and he is being hit from all sides. Trump brought all of this on himself as years of burying his skeletons are coming back to haunt him. Jared Kushner has brought back one of the burgeoning scandals of the Trump administration, and presidential nepotism could lead to his downfall.
