Rachel Maddow was the first to report on Monday that if Donald Trump‘s attorney general, William Barr, doesn’t release the complete Mueller report by Thursday, the American people will be taking to the streets in protest.
According to the MSNBC host, there are more than 175 demonstrations planned for later this week if Barr doesn’t release the report either voluntarily or after being subpoenaed by Democrats in Congress.
“Ten days into the Mueller report having been submitted but not yet been released, that coalition confirms to us tonight that unless the Mueller report is out by Thursday, those folks are going to be out in the streets that day in response,” Maddow said.

Maddow said:
If William Barr does not meet the deadline set by Congress to hand over that unredacted report by tomorrow, and if he is subpoenaed for it on Wednesday, and if the subpoena on Wednesday also doesn’t compel him to turn over the report to Congress, then on Thursday, we can report tonight that a group called the Trump is not above the law coalition, they’re planning over 175 protests all over the country on Thursday in response. This is a coalition group that has a lot of big-name members. … And this coalition planned actions like this in advance … saying these demonstrations would be triggered if steps were taken by the Trump administration to go after the Mueller investigation. This group formed in advance and made this plan in advance to try to plan public demonstrations and public response to protect Mueller and his investigation in anticipation that the Trump administration would take steps to block it or would try to keep Mueller’s findings secret. Again, ten days into the Mueller report having been submitted but not yet been released, that coalition confirms to us tonight that unless the Mueller report is out by Thursday, those folks are going to be out in the streets that day in response.
It’s clear now that despite Donald Trump‘s initial calls to have the Mueller report released, he doesn’t want it to see the light of day.
What he has wanted all along is for William Barr to release a rosy summary, cherry-picking a few spinnable half-sentences, so he could parade it in front of his MAGA mobs and right-wing media loyalists.
But outside of the Trump bubble, where a majority of the country is, Donald Trump is losing his post-Mueller PR war. The American people aren’t buying his spin. They want the report their tax dollars paid for.
The longer it takes to release it (without redactions), the more obvious it is that the president’s attorney general is participating in a cover-up on behalf of his new boss.
