Kushner Is Cooperating With Democrats and May Help Bring Down Trump

It was once rumored that Donald Trump would throw Jared Kushner under the bus, but now it appears that the opposite may be happening. According to reports that came out last night, Trump’s son-in-law, who is also a senior White House adviser, is now cooperating with the investigations of House Democrats.

Working through his legal counsel, Kushner has told the House Judiciary Committee that he will provide documents to them as they have requested. And, according to confidential sources, Kushner has in fact already provided some documents to the committee.

The House Judiciary Committee is conducting an extensive inquiry into all facets of Donald Trump’s administration, campaign and businesses. They are especially focusing on possible obstruction of justice and abuses of power.

Needless to say, the documents and other information provided to Democrats by Jared Kushner could be invaluable to their investigations.

Kushner’s attorney, Abbe Lowell, told the panel, chaired by Rep. Jerry Nadler of New York, that he and his client will continue to provide documents in compliance with their requests for information about the president.

By way of contrast, earlier in the day, according to news reports, a lawyer for Trump adviser Roger Stone said in a letter that Stone was not cooperating with the committee, citing his right to avoid self-incrimination under the Fifth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

Documents Kushner Will Give House Democrats

The document requests sent to Kushner from the Judiciary Committee relate to the June 2016 Trump Tower meeting in which Kushner, Trump’s son Donald Trump Jr., then-campaign manager Paul Manafort and others met with a Kremlin-linked lawyer who they believed had dirt on Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

Kushner also was asked to turn over all records concerning:

  1. The Trump Organization’s discussions to build a Trump Tower in Moscow during the 2016 campaign.
  2. The publishing of hacked Democratic emails by WikiLeaks,
  3. The payment of hush money to women alleging affairs with Donald Trump,
  4. Any contacts between the Trump campaign and Russia, and
  5. Certain events that took place after Trump became president, such as the firing of former FBI Director James Comey.

The committee also asked Kushner for information on internal Trump administration affairs, such as Trump’s contacts with his former acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker regarding special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation or the work of other federal prosecutors.

The president’s son-in-law was also asked to provide documents that may discuss possible pardons for Manafort, former White House national security adviser Michael Flynn or former Trump lawyer Michael Cohen.

Other Members of Trump’s Family Have Been Asked for Documents

Kushner is just one of several members of Trump’s family who have been asked for documents. Democrats have also asked for documents from Trump Jr. and the president’s other son, Eric Trump.

Democrats have not yet asked for documents from Kushner’s wife, Ivanka Trump, although they did ask many other people for information about her and her possible illegal activities.

Jared Kushner May Help Bring Down Donald Trump

By being both a member of Donald Trump’s family AND a member of his administration, Jared Kushner is in a unique position. He has seen things and been involved in things that could give House investigators unique insights into what exactly happened during Trump’s campaign and transition period, as well as during his entire presidency.

We don’t know that Jared Kushner will be able to give House Democrats a smoking gun to convict Donald Trump of crimes, but we do know that the odds are very high that he will be able to provide some incriminating evidence that could very possibly help take down his father-in-law’s presidency.
