Robert Mueller Has Submitted His Report, But Attorney General Will Write His Own Version

Robert Mueller has submitted his report to Attorney General William Barr, but so far Barr will only brief congressional leaders on the key findings of the report.

The AP reported, “The Justice Department said Mueller delivered his final report to Attorney General William Barr and officially concluded his probe of Russian election interference and possible coordination with Trump associates. The report will now be reviewed by Barr, who has said he will write his own account communicating Mueller’s findings to Congress and the American public. Barr said he could release his account to Congress as soon as this weekend.”

Trump’s lawyers released this statement that seems to suggest that Barr might do Trump’s dirty work and not release the report:

Mueller’s report needs to be released

A whitewashed Barr version of the report will not be good enough. The American people need to see Mueller’s report in full. The statement from Giuliani and Sekulow was ominous because it suggests that the White House might try to bury the report and only give the American people Barr’s version of what Mueller has submitted.

A prolonged battle may need to be waged by Democrats to get access to the Mueller report. The easy thing for this administration to do would be to release the report. Trump has never done anything the easy or smart way, so this is just the beginning of a political brawl that Democrats will be fighting to get Mueller’s full findings made public.
