Trump knows that he is losing, so the president is encouraging violence as a way to scare voters and keep support for his opponent down in 2020.
Trump is trying to scare Democrats
During an interview last week, Trump threatened the left and anyone who stands up to him, “It’s so terrible what’s happening. You know, the left plays a tougher game, it’s very funny. I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they don’t play it tougher. Okay? I can tell you, I have the support of the police, the support of the military, the support of the Bikers for Trump – I have the tough people, but they don’t play it tough until they go to a certain point, and then it would be very bad, very bad. But the left plays it cuter and tougher.”
Politically, what Democrats are doing is working. Trump has never been told no in his life, but now he is faced with a co-equal branch of government that isn’t backing down and never hesitates to say no.
Trump doesn’t know what to do, because despite the self-created mythology, the president not skilled at dealmaking or compromise.
Since he has no interest in governing but is desperate to hold on to power, all Donald Trump can do is threaten Democrats.
Trump doesn’t want Democrats feeling safe going to the polls
Trump lost the popular vote by 3 million votes to Hillary Clinton. The president has seen his standing plummet in the three Rust Belt states that he won by 77,000 votes in 2016. With Democratic governors in place in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, and Michigan, Republican efforts to suppress the vote will fail.
Donald Trump is trying to figure out a way to discourage Democrats from voting in 2020, which is why he has returned to his favorite intimidation tactic of threatening violence.
The president has also threatened violence against people protesting him, violence against Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), and his attorney Rudy Giuliani has threated violence against the American people if Trump is impeached.
The threats mean that Democrats are winning, and Trump knows that his time is running out.
