Nancy Pelosi Just Killed Mike Pence’s Sham National Emergency Bill

The sham bill that Senate Republicans are considering that would limit future emergency powers won’t get a vote in the House according to Speaker Pelosi.

The bill which is part of a con cooked up by Vice President Pence and some Republican Senators would see Trump agreeing to limit any future national emergency powers in exchange for getting Republican support for his wall national emergency declaration.

In a statement provided to PoliticusUSA, Speaker Pelosi said, “Republican Senators are proposing new legislation to allow the President to violate the Constitution just this once in order to give themselves cover. The House will not take up this legislation to give President Trump a pass.”

The Bill Would Give Trump A Pass On His Wall National Emergency

The White House is worried about the optics of how it will look to the country and press if Senate Republicans join with Democrats to block Trump’s national emergency, but there is another component in play as well. When Trump’s national emergency declaration goes to court, judges in the cases are going to examine the legislative intent of Congress. A bipartisan Senate rejection of Trump’s emergency hurts the administration’s case.

Pence and some Senate Republicans are trying to buy support for an unconstitutional action with what amounts to a promise from the president that has told the most lies in history that he will never do it again.

Republicans are trying to cover their backsides, but beneath their cowardice is the reality that a group of GOP Senators is willing to stand with Trump as he tramples the Constitution.

Nancy Pelosi and House Democrats are the only check and safeguard the nation has to protect democracy and our system of governance.
