Maxine Waters Says Democrats Don’t Need Mueller’s Report To Move Forward On Impeachment

While some Democrats have been reluctant to discuss impeachment ahead of Robert Mueller‘s final report, Rep. Maxine Waters, chair of the House Financial Services Committee, is not one of them.

In an interview with MSNBC‘s AM Joy on Saturday, the Democratic lawmaker said she believes there is already enough on the table to move forward with impeachment hearings.

“As far as I’m concerned, he has enough violations,” Waters said. “So I believe that we have everything [we need] to basically impeach him.”

Rep. Waters said:

I believe in the constitution and the constitution gives us the authority and the responsibility to decide whether or not a president is acting in the best interest of this country. This president is not. As far as I’m concerned, he has enough violations, he’s been involved in a lot of activity that we believe needs to be made apparent, and so I believe that we have everything that it needs to basically impeach him. I believe that. You’re absolutely right, we’re depending on Mr. Mueller, the American people should be depending on the people that they elected to represent them to determine whether or not this president is undermining the constitution, whether or not he’s acting in our best interest, and whether or not he’s putting us in danger because he may be compromised in the way that he’s dealing with other countries.

Mueller’s investigation is only the tip of the iceberg

While Robert Mueller is clearly continuing to conduct his investigation in a deliberate and thorough manner, it shouldn’t be the end-all when it comes to the possible impeachment of Donald Trump.

After all, the special counsel probe is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Trump‘s corruption as its scope is largely limited to a campaign conspiracy with Russia and possible obstruction of justice.

All the while, investigators in New York and various committees in the Democratic-controlled House of Representatives are investigating the president for a slew of other criminal activity, from tax fraud to campaign finance violations to improper use of funds related to his fake charity and inaugural committee.

As Rep. Maxine Waters said on Saturday, there is more than enough on the table for Democrats to move forward with impeachment proceedings, regardless of what the Mueller report finds.
