White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders usually has a talking point or false statement for every occasion, but when asked about Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner‘s security clearances, all she could do was dodge the question.
When asked by reporters on Wednesday morning about the security clearances, Sanders said, “We’re not going to comment on security clearances. That’s the policy of the White House, and it continues to be the policy of the White House. We’re also not going to get into comments and a back and forth over things that are dealing with the oversight.”

Sanders completely avoided the question, which is itself an answer. This is a White House that is always trying to rally their base with anger and outrage, but on the security clearances, there were no protests of innocence or cries of witch hunts. All reports got from Sanders was a no comment.
Before the news broke that Trump was also advised not to give his daughter Ivanka a security clearance, Reps. Ted Lieu (D-CA) and Don Beyer (D-VA) sent a letter to Attorney General William Barr requesting that a criminal investigation is opened into false statements made by Jared Kushner on his national security clearance disclosure forms.
The White House is also stonewalling a request from the House Oversight Committee for all documents related to Jared Kushner’s security clearance.
In an administration where scandals pop up like dandelions on a spring day, the security clearance scandal has the potential to be especially devastating because it combines national security with Trump‘s decisionmaking and his war with intelligence officials. Add a healthy dose of nepotism to the mix, and the result is a scandal to be a massive ongoing headache for a White House where the scandal never stops.
