A determined Speaker Pelosi vowed to protect the Constitution while announcing that the House will vote tomorrow to overturn Trump’s national emergency.
Pelosi said, “To defend our democracy, the House will pass Congressman Castro’s privileged resolution to terminate the emergency declaration tomorrow.”
Speaker Pelosi added, “This isn’t about the border. This is about the Constitution of the United States. This is not about politics. This is not about partisanship. It’s about patriotism, and so as I said, once we pass this resolution we will send it over to the Senate. All members, as I say, have taken the oath of office. We would be delinquent in our duty if we did not resist if we did not fight back to overturn the president’s declaration. To not do that would be to abandon our own responsibilities. We do not intend to do that.”

The Senate will either fail to pass the resolution, or pass it, and fail to overturn Trump’s veto. Either way, House Democrats intend to sue Trump to stop his bogus national emergency. As Speaker Pelosi stated, this isn’t about a wall. The Constitution is the issue. A president can’t be allowed to violate the separation of powers by assuming the power of the purse.
Donald Trump has the power to declare a national emergency. Trump does not have the power to take congressionally appropriated funds and use them for a non-intended purpose.
Speaker Pelosi is determined to kill Trump’s national emergency by doing so will protect democracy and the constitutional separation of powers from a president with authoritarian impulses.
