Donald Trump’s former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, is now scheduled to testify before Congress next week. And it is causing panic in the White House as new details emerge about Cohen’s planned testimony.
It appears that Cohen will be on live television destroying Donald Trump as he reveals previously secret information about Trump’s sexual infidelities and crooked business practices.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi posted a tweet revealing for the first time that Cohen will be testifying publicly before BOTH the House Oversight Committee next Wednesday, AND privately before the House Intelligence Committee next Thursday:
“Michael Cohen will come before the @OversightDems & @HouseIntel Committees next week. Congress has an independent duty under the Constitution to conduct oversight of the Executive Branch, and any efforts to intimidate family members or pressure witnesses will not be tolerated.”
Note that Pelosi has sent a strong and clear message to Donald Trump that if he tries to make any more threats against Cohen’s family, she will make Trump pay for it.
Soon after Pelosi’s tweet was posted, Cohen retweeted it.
At first, it appeared that Cohen would be severely limited in the topics he can testify about. For example, he will not be allowed to discuss matters related to Russia, including a proposed Trump Tower project in Moscow under scrutiny by special counsel Mueller.
But according to a press release issued released by Oversight Chair Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-MD), Cohen will be expected to discuss a wide range of topics touching on the president. They include (as described by Cummings):
This is an incredible list.
Cohen will be testifying about Trump’s “compliance with tax laws” so maybe we’ll finally find out about all the tax laws that Donald Trump has broken through the years.
Cohen has also agreed to publicly testify Trump’s “business practices” which will presumably include all of his criminal real estate projects involving fraud and money laundering.
Cummings noted that Cohen is testifying voluntarily and therefore is not under a subpoena. He also explained the purpose of his committee hearings, saying:
“Congress has an obligation under the Constitution to conduct independent and robust oversight of the executive branch, and this hearing is one step in that process.”
When Michael Cohen discloses on live television previously secret details of Donald Trump’s crimes, it may attract the largest audience in the history of television. This could be the moment that we all have been waiting for, when the sordid truth about our criminal president is finally revealed.
