Hannity Tells Republicans Not to Support ‘Garbage’ Border Security Deal

The man who appears to be in charge of the Republican Party, Sean Hannity , has issued a new warning to Republicans in Congress. After the details of a border security funding compromise was leaked late last night the Fox News personality said:

“On this new, so-called compromise, I’m getting details. $1.3 billion? That’s not a — not even a wall, a barrier?”

“I’m going to tell this tonight and we will get back into this tomorrow. Any Republican that supports this garbage compromise, you will have to explain.”

“Look at this crowd. Look at the country. Look at CBS News, even they say 72 percent of the American people want the heroin to stop, the cartels to stop, the gang members to stop, and those that wish us ill.”

In his comments Hannity was referring to the agreement reached by a bipartisan conference committee last night that would provide funding for border security. The bill reportedly would allocate $1.375 billion for physical barriers along the U.S.-Mexico border, but no money for a wall.

On CNN this morning, Alisyn Camerota laughed off the idea that Trump would stand up to Hannity on the issue of border security, calling it “crazy talk.”

During a panel discussion about the bipartisan compromise CNN’s John Berman said he thought that Trump will just sign off on the new deal and ignore the angry rants of Fox News personalities. The CNN host said:

“The president does have an option, which is to stand up to Sean Hannity. That is always available to him. He doesn’t have to do what Sean Hannity says here. He could say, ‘We’re getting this barrier, it’s better for the 800,000 federal workers if they get paid.’”

“Stop your crazy talk!” Camerota said immediately, laughing.

“I know, I know it’s crazy talk,” Berman admitted.

CNN White House correspondent Jeff Zeleny then said that lawmakers should be nervous if Trump takes a long time to announce his decision on whether to sign the compromise bill because that means he’s spent a lot of time watching Fox News’ angry reaction to it.

Also appearing on CNN, committee chair Nita Lowey said she thought the congressional negotiators had come up with a good deal.

“This is a compromise. No one got everything they wanted, but it does secure the border, it does represent our values,” Rep. @NitaLowey, one of four lead bipartisan negotiators who say they reached an agreement in principle to avert a shutdown.”

Today is an important day in the Trump presidency, and for the country. We will find out if Trump will follow reason, and avert another shutdown. The other alternative is for him to give in to Sean Hannity’s raving, and refuse to sign the “garbage compromise” that Hannity hates.
