Senate minority leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday lambasted Donald Trump’s pathetic statement in his State of the Union (SOTU) address that Democrats would have to stop the investigations into his administration. The president said this was a precondition for bipartisan cooperation and getting any legislation passed.
During Schumer’s appearance on CNN, host John Berman read Schumer the quote from Trump’s speech where the president claimed that we can’t have legislation while at the same time having investigations. Trump said:
“If there is going to be peace and legislation, there cannot be war and investigation. It just doesn’t work that way!”
At that point, Schumer literally laughed out loud at Trump’s comment, saying:
“You know what I think it shows, John? He’s scared — he’s got something to hide! Because if he had nothing to hide, he’d just shrug his shoulders and let these investigations go forward.”

Earlier in the interview, Schumer also commented on the reports that Trump called him a “nasty son of a b*tch” at a meeting on Tuesday, joking:
“So much for inclusiveness, so much for working together. I criticize the president. That’s part of my job as leader and part of my job as an American… Instead of answering it on the merits, he uses an epithet. That’s like a ten-year-old at a school yard!”
Chuck Schumer is showing Donald Trump how a statesman acts. He doesn’t resort to childish and petty insults. He doesn’t throw tantrums and ridicule people if he doesn’t get his way. He treats people with respect, and he carries himself with the dignity that is required from the office he holds.
Now that the State of the Union speech is over, the media will begin to focus more on the things that Donald Trump fear most: the many investigations into his criminal behavior.
Donald Trump’s performance last night was pathetic. He has nothing to offer the country, and he has all the markings of a desperate — and doomed — man.
