Rep. Maxine Waters Says Trump Is Absolutely Heading For Impeachment

Last updated on February 3rd, 2019 at 01:51 pm

Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA) stated her firm belief that Donald Trump is still heading straight for being impeached.

Transcript via CNBC:

John Harwood: You are one of the earliest members of Congress to call for the impeachment of the president.

Maxine Waters: Yes.

John Harwood: Speaker Pelosi is more cautious. But is it plain to you right now that that’s where this is headed?

Maxine Waters: Absolutely.

John Harwood: So do you believe the House will vote to impeach the president even if it is clear that Republicans will not join with that effort in the Senate?

Maxine Waters: No, I don’t know that. I don’t know that an impeachment resolution will ever be taken up. I hope so. I believe it should be, but I don’t know that.

Trump Impeachment Is Looking More Inevitable

It is less and less likely that Trump is going to make a move to fire Mueller. Even if the president did fire the special counsel, many legal experts think that it is too late for Trump to stop Mueller, but the odds of Trump being impeached have only grown as more information continues to trickle out about the events of the 2016 election, and more importantly, Trump‘s crimes with his former lawyer Michael Cohen.

Rep Waters read Trump as heading for impeachment early on.

The problem is that the impeachment process takes time. An impeachment investigation has to be done, hearings must be held, articles of impeachment drafted, and then voted on by the House. If the president is impeached, the Senate will hold a trial. Even if Democrats started the impeachment process today, it would not finish before the 2020 election. Impeachment is almost a given if Democrats keep the House, and Trump wins a second term, which is an unlikely outcome next November.

Rep. Waters was correct. Trump is heading for impeachment, but voters may kick him out of office before he can be impeached and tried.
