It is being reported that Trump had a secret meeting with Putin at the G20 that took place no US translator or notetaker present. It was Trump and Putin discussing foreign policy alone.
MSNBC‘s Chris Hayes summed up the latest developments:
Just a few weeks after the revelation that the president of the United States was suspected by his own government of working on Russia‘s behalf, we’re learning about yet another undisclosed exchange the president had with Vladimir Putin.
No American interpreters, just Putin, and his own interpreter. This is wildly out of step with the usual protocol and if you were disposed, you might conclude this is how the president meets with his handler. We knew the president had spoken briefly with Putin late last year during the G 20 summit in Argentina. They held an informal a quote conversation only after it was revealed by the press but now the Financial Times reports it was longer and more substantive than we were led to believe. The president was accompanied by Melania Trump, his wife but no staff, while Mr. Putin‘s interpreter was there. According to a Russian government official’s account, the two spoke for about 15 minutes about a number of foreign policy issues.
Video:
It is a very simple question. Why does Donald Trump insist on hiding his meetings with Putin from his own government? If Trump were innocent, one would expect that the president would demand full transparency. He would want the country to know that there was nothing unusual in his conversations with Putin. Instead, Trump continues to sneak around and act guilty.
The president can’t hide. The meetings are coming out, and soon the details will follow. Donald Trump is acting like a Russian asset, and his refusal to have his own government present when he meets with Putin makes it clear that he is working for Russia, not the United States.
