Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, the new chair of the House Financial Services Committee, said she will not accept a scenario in which Robert Mueller‘s report isn’t released in its entirety to the public.
During an interview with MSNBC‘s Chris Hayes, Rep. Waters not only should the special counsel report be made public, but it shouldn’t be redacted to the point that the American people won’t understand the findings.
“The public needs to know what is going on,” the Democratic congresswoman said. “I demand it and I’m trying to organize everybody that I can to call for this report to be released to the public.”

Waters said:
No, I don’t like the fact that Cohen will be in a closed hearing with members testifying on anything that he said, he’s not said. I think it should be out in the public. The public wants to know. This investigation has been going on for a considerable amount of time. Not only should we hear from all of those who are continuing to be called, but when this report, this investigative report, is completed, I want it to be public and I’m starting right now saying that I and many others do not agree that it should be so redacted that you can’t understand it, that it won’t be released, that only members of Congress can get it. The public needs to know what is going on. I demand it and I’m trying to organize everybody that I can to call for this report to be released to the public.
As much as Donald Trump and his Republican allies in Congress may want to conceal Robert Mueller‘s final report, the pressure to make it public appears to be too strong to ignore.
As PoliticusUSA’s Jason Easley noted on Monday, Republicans and Democrats in the Senate have teamed up to introduce the Special Counsel Transparency Act, which “would make Robert Mueller’s report available to both Congress and the public.”
Even if Trump were to remove Mueller from his post, the legislation would require the special counsel to file a report to Congress, not the president.
Still, with Democrats running the House of Representatives and putting continued pressure on Republicans to be transparent, Donald Trump and his GOP allies in Congress will find it almost impossible to bury Robert Mueller‘s final report, no matter how damning it is.
